A huntsman from Uckerath knew that a certain witch could transform into a hare, and sought to murder her while she was in animal form.

Yes. During the hottest weeks of summer, when my rooftop apartment (which doesn't have air conditioning) gets too hot, I frequently go into the local botanical gardens […]

I have an offer to make: do you want to run an instance on the fediverse for a group that's underrepresented here?

I'll pay the bills. Period.

I'll do admin if needed (software updates and the like). But you decide what kind of community you want it to be, so you put together the mod team.

DM me.

The Stubbenkammer chalk rock formation on Rügen holds many treasures - and many secrets.

The Black Woman on the Königsstuhl:

There once lived a noblewoman on Rügen who had many treasures. She feared that those treasures might be stolen, and thus had them buried within the chalk rock of the Stubbenkammer. However, she had the diggers executed so that none of them could betray where the treasures could be found. For this reason, she still has to stand guard next to the treasures within the rock. Every year, on St. John’s Day, she emerges from the depths of the rock, and sits down on the top of the Königsstuhl cliff.[3] There she waits the entire day to see whether anyone would come who could retrieve the treasures and release her. It is unknown in which manner this could be accomplished.

To expand on my earlier post, I have frequently read the notion around here that the #fediverse doesn't need to grow in order to be successful. I vehemently disagree.

@juergen_hubert A thing that often happen is the visibility of abusive posts us not set to "everyone".

So it's important to be aware that when there's an abusive reply, it might not be visible to you.

There are also some instances that take a very lax attitude towards moderation.

Now, if your […]

With the recent influx of newcomers from #bluesky , it behooves us to contemplate what we can do to improve #moderation on the #fediverse - something that has been a problem in the past, and is one of the major reasons why the Fediverse is not as big and as diverse as it could be.

The first and […]

The famous crowned "snake kings" of German folklore also come in giant-sized varieties.

The Hahnunk

A simple stone cross stands on a steep path near Königswinter, in the direction of the Drachenfels mountain and surrounded by vineyards. It is said that, on certain nights, the Hahnunk sits on it, which is a gargantuan snake wearing a shiny golden crown. The gemstones of its crown allegedly radiate so much light that both the snake and the objects surrounding it can be seen clearly.

2/ I've visited the Harzs several times in recent years, and Pröhle's work was a faithful companion on these visits. Here are a few of the tales I have translated from the region - covering dwarves, ghosts, Pokémon, witches, ambulatory wall clocks, evil stags, cannibal bandits, and more! […]

1/ The mountain landscapes of Tyrol hide a lot of folk tales, and there are a lot of collections showcasing them. My favorite among these is "Mythen und Sagen Tirols" by Johann Nepomuk von Alpenburg. Not because it's the most scholarly or comprehensive, but because the author makes sure to […]
