I read the essay years ago but it left a strong impression! It felt like the antidote, like you talk about in this thread, to romanticized depictions of the institution in fiction.

After Spain decided to stand on principle, I genuinely thought Israel might be kicked out. But no.

I've seen this too in different contexts!

Just finished Jakarta Method recently, such a good book!

Unfortunately, deep disappointment in elites is not limited to the U.S. Every day we have a new reason for it in the EU as well. On Palestine, the difference between people and national leaders is so stark.

My understanding of the U.S. situation is that there's broad and extremely brave popular resistance unfortunately accompanied by craven elite failure, i.e. the same situation Bevins examines in his book in Brazil, Egypt and elsewhere.

If you have the mass protest but your political actors are not interested in taking the agenda forward, there's no change. You need someone at the actual levels of power.

In Korea, politicians were able to gain legitimacy from the popular protests to take swift action.

Vincent Bevins has a great book called If We Burn about major popular protests in the 2010s and why they failed to achieve their goals. It posits that for real change you need mass protest, which will then be used by political actors to gain legitimacy to push through the desired agenda. (cont.)

It's like, after building my sandcastle in the corner of the sandbox, I want to check out what the other kids are doing.

In the case of Werewolf, their sandcastles are pretty cool!

(con't) ...digital Werewolf games like Heart of the Forest, Purgatory and the Book of Hungry Names. Because I've spent so much time with the minutiae of the IP, it's fun to see how other writers and teams have approached the same problems and topics.

Most of the time we rolled movement even with no enemies on board, and it was pretty tedious. Sometimes we broke down and just moved the characters freely.

In practice I think people just default to our usual calendar in their imaginations unless an unusual setup is constantly reinforced.

Congrats, wonderful news!
