@thecaptivereader.bsky.social I just finished Somewhere, a Boy and a Bear by Gyles Brandreth. He mentioned you in his acknowledgements and I saw you had read most of A A Milne’s oeuvre. Although a lover of his 4 children’s books since the 60s I have never read his adult books. Best recommendations?

The Adelaide Festival board PR release paraphrased:
We don't understand
-writers
-books
-festivals
-the arts
-audience
-what our job is
-how to resist interference
-the gravity of our mistake
-how to apologise.
So we've obliterated Writers' Week & left the whole Adelaide Festival boardless, byeeee.

@richardosman1.bsky.social I’ve just finished your latest TMC book. Really enjoyed it-probably the best so far. Clever crime twists, really humorous moments along with poignant insights into the characters we have all come to know well (the last point being why it was such a satisfying read). Thanks

AOC: I saw on Fox, Jeanine Pirro says that they found so many babies and two year olds and four year olds receiving social security. I got a notice for you Jeanine Pirro: those babies receive social security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

As a retired educational leader I’m proud to say that if ‘woke’ education is teaching our children about ethics, morals, empathy, critical literacy, collaboration and caring then yes we do this every day. I’m proud of our schools and we punch above our weight in developing great minds and inventions

Dutton: “I don’t know because I’m not a scientist. Scientists can provide advice.” No, Peter, scientists provide EVIDENCE. Tested and retested. You don’t have to be a scientist to trust science any more than you need to be a brain surgeon to trust a competent brain surgeon. Still in denial.

Near the moment Booker crossed the finish line, he alluded to the fact that, as a Black lawmaker, his very presence on the floor was a direct defiance of Thurmond’s 24-hour plus effort to fight Civil Rights.

Thurmond's filibuster was performative. He read from the Encyclopedia. Cruz's filibuster was performative. He read from Dr. Seuss.

Cory Booker spoke issues and history and people's needs for over 24 hours. Nothing performative. He may have just started to pull us out of this mire.

My daughter gave me this surprise gift here in Australia-we are celebrating her 40th with her brother visiting from London. I quote Mystery Hour to her often (she’s a Science teacher-these are facts she needs to know!😄 )Can’t wait to play to show my ignorance of many things 😊

The rumour mill is spinning that mid-late March could be election time. If it is, Albanese needs to get serious help - and listen to it.

If Peter Dutton has dominated politics this week it is because he has dominated the political agenda this year, as well as this week, even with his rare appearances before the Canberra Press Gallery.

@wazv.bsky.social Good points here
Yes to this article. What do you think? And yes the irony isn't lost on me that I'm positing this on SM. But as my school friends post on FB AGAIN...and AGAIN, the White Australia trope that Christmas is under threat, it's not only our young being preyed upon on SM is it?
My latest in the @australia.theguardian.com is about how I’m opposed to the social media ban because I want it to apply to me, too. #auspol
