She was fired for teaching what she was hired to teach. She was fired for doing what she did not do. She was fired for breaking a law that does not exist.
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.

THIS IS TERRIBLE

(Sharing English version of the redirect page. Sure MMDC was very web 2.0 but it existed! Waiting for a replacement if/when is 😩)

People are harshing on some “diverse reading challenge” thing that’s going around, and I get it, but looking at what you read and asking yourself “what isn’t represented here?” is imo a good and healthy practice

British Library staff asked for a decent pay. Instead they got ‘a few money-saving present ideas’, such as ‘consider not giving presents this holiday season’. They are on strike this week. I wrote about it for @lrb.co.uk. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/de...

Normally I would be teaching my module on medieval monsters now but today we're striking because it's monstrous that a third of our students live at the poverty line, that PhDs receive part-time pay for full-time work, and that post-PhD there is no job security!

GEMMA was an absolute blast! Three days of fascinating papers on Gender, Emotion and Monstrosity in the Middle Ages, brilliant conversations, and delicious food. But yes, now sleep!
GEMMA is over and we are tired, but our hearts and minds are full, of new ideas and new connections, new people and new questions. Thanks to everyone who participated, it was amazing! Now: sleep.
