Someone bought a bunch of the turkeys and hams at our local grocery in town and told the manager to make them available for free to folks that need them. There’s a whole freezer case with a sign on it that just says “If you need one take one, if you don’t then leave it for someone else.”

Oh no!! *massive hugs* to you all. I hope things go as quietly and painlessly as they can. 😞

Makes me think of Deckard

'What a cool job listing,' I thought. 'I should share it with my networks, let me just double-check...ah yes, they want ten years of experience and are offering a starting salary of $35k.' *close tab*

saw a tote bag just today that pointed out that there is no such thing, and I nodded with approval: the bag was correct

I'll spend a good chunk of the day on public transit and walking so I'll be putting all my layering refinements to work, for sure yeah.

blerg. I just checked ours and essentially the same. high just above freezing. I guess I'll dress accordingly! This is my first proper holiday in decades and I am Not. Going. to Waste. It!

ah gotcha. yeah I'd like to see something a bit different heh

that's the second time in a few weeks people have recommended that to me but I honestly thought it just sold faux country tat?

yeah I feel like that's a change in weaving over the decades and idk if it's even fixable w/o ultra-expensive custom-woven cloth : (

yeah that's my first thought too, but as you note, scale has changed, 'small' still requires all the things, and then it's not so small anymore : (

omg yes this. Once it's established we can shop the idea to potential brand partners etc. A great plan!

Hell, price in a booth at CES into the startup costs. You KNOW folks there would notice something like this.

I mean it would take the startup backing to purchase a digital front end w/dev and some ongoing customer service, warehouse space and fulfillment, and inventory, right? Back to Basics would pull in the granola left, but also the prepper right, so there's a broad customer base.

The big move back has inevitably resulted in a heavier shopping year than usual for me and it's just been...weirdly oppressive? Trying to sort through all the grot for whatever I'm actually looking for, which is never anything very complicated and yet somehow stupidly difficult to find?

dreaming of an online department store called Back to Basics, full of profoundly dumb TVs and DVD players, DVDs, maybe even mp3 players, 100% cotton tshirts and jeans in a range of sizes, all-cotton linens in sub-400 count, and towels, maybe low-nonsense skincare? idk.

For the USHE crowd, fathom this: the systemic pattern in UKHE the past few years has been to CUT the best, most award-winning, most-grant-getting, most-publishing programs.
The cuts at Leicester University are also targeting some of our top REF (and NSS) performers: History; Film Studies; Chemistry; Modern Languages; Geography, Geology & Environment
