She’s my neighbour, but I only met her today for the first time. Her name is also Julie. Her kindness really made a difference to my day.

She met me on the bridge. And as soon as she saw me, she opened her arms and she gave me the most enormous hug. And she helped me. She patted me on the back, and she said hello to my dog. She said, Men don’t realise how much they frighten us.

Well, I was standing there crying, a woman came out of one of the houses opposite the river. She called, Are you alright love? And I, still crying, told her what had happened. She asked me where I lived and if I could get home safely. And then she told me that she would come and meet me.

Eventually, he finished yelling at me, and he finished doing whatever he was doing, and he walked away. I stood on the spot and watched him go. And then I burst into tears. I’m not sure why, probably it was the memory of being sexually assaulted on this path last spring. But I just felt helpless.

This guy did, because he had his hands down his pants.

I’m going to add here that on a daily basis, I see homeless individuals, and people doing intravenous drugs and other types of drugs on this path. Other people just drinking and getting high. Or people just walking or exercising. None of these individuals ever make me feel scared.

I told him that I had been sexually assaulted on this path, and he should tell me when he was finished and walk away so that I didn’t have to see anything. He continued swearing at me, yelling at me, and asserting his right to do whatever the fuck he wanted.

There was nobody else on the tow path at that moment, but the path is overlooked by several houses on one side, and several flats on another, and is next to a busy bridge, and within 100 meters of a primary school. It’s generally a busy public footpath, but at this moment we were alone.

The man didn’t take his hands out of his trousers. He had his back to me and he started swearing at me saying that he could do whatever he wanted. He told me he was taking a piss. This was likely, but I was scared because that’s exactly what a flasher would say, isn’t it?

This one is Saffy-free but it does have a LOT of murders in it nevertheless

In other news I think people who set off loud fireworks in a residential area are pointlessly cruel, and a tradition that needlessly terrifies animals and also humans is a tradition that should be changed. Low-noise fireworks exist. Small bonfires are silent. Stop being assholes
