I threw a blueberry pie together on impulse and it’s so good.

And because the dough looked so pretty in the mixer…

I made blueberry bagels.
While they need some tweaking, they are good.

An attempt at a turkey-shaped loaf was made.

LOL

Finally sitting down to watch The American Revolution documentary by Ken Burns.

I made creamy corn pasta for lunch. It's really good with a bit of red pepper flakes and a sprinkling of cayenne powder.

The igniter in my oven gave out today after a while of threatening to. It managed to ignite after an hour of being on and so I just barely got to bake this pear tart I had been working on since Sunday. The igniter is now definitely dead and the technician can't come until Friday. Baker's nightmare.

Some brioche buns with various finishes from a couple of weeks ago. Clockwise, butter and vanilla sugar, dulce de leche, coconut.

Taking a little break from grading to fill some mango macarons.

LOL.
What a typo!

The world is falling apart, but I'm still here cooking and baking my little heart out.
Today I made peach mostarda with peaches we picked a couple of weekends ago, and pasta sauce with what is the last of my "big" harvests from my rooftop container garden.

I got a little fancy with my lunch focaccia today.
All the veggies and herbs are from my rooftop container garden.

I hope there are trials at The Hague when this is all over.

Me: oh, I'm probably not gonna need this baking sheet under the peach cobbler; I don't think it's going to bubble over.

The peach cobbler: LOL

Lunch today was this gorgeous peach caprese salad with prosciutto. The tomatoes and basil are from my container garden, and the peaches from a local farm, where we picked them.

I made lemon verbena peach ice cream.
In the last several years, when I've been making ice cream seriously, I've learned that I am just not a big fan of herbal ice creams. Mint aside.
The peach component in this one is great though. And if you really love lemon verbena, you'd like this ice cream.

We saw this store today while driving in Connecticut and made the quickest left turn because I couldn't miss the world's largest dairy store.
It turns out, much to our disappointment, that it is not, in fact, a dairy store. It's just a grocery store.

McDonald’s nickel and diming customers as if their prices weren’t already ridiculous for what it is.

Anyway, I'm testing a new recipe today. It's 50% whole wheat sourdough loaf and it looks great. Some minor tweaks for next time, but I'm pretty happy with it.

A couple of loaves from today. I'm pretty pleased with them.

I know the world is falling apart, but look at this puff pastry I made from scratch with my new hand-cranked dough sheeter!
August 13, 2025 at 11:00 PM
I recently got myself a nice little manual dough sheeter because I was interested in adding laminated pastries to my microbakery menu but did not want to roll by hand.

Today I tested it with a small batch of puff pastry. I haven’t baked it yet, but it looks promising!

Looks at this gorgeous buckwheat pain de méteil I made!
