SBM won’t ever be safe or sustainable. In 10yrs we’ll still know almost nothing abt deep-sea ecosyst’s. The only way to protect our ocean, livelihoods & future gen’s is to stop this industry b4 it starts in Cook Is, Taranaki or anywhere in the Pacific. Protecting the moana is our birth-righted duty

Foreign operators profit, then leave. Communities are left with the destruction & consequences, often never recovering. That’s the extractive legacy, seabed / deep sea mining would be no different.

We’ve been here before. Around the world, communities, esp Indigenous Ppls, have centuries of lived experience showing extractive industries leave riches for a few, while long-term, far-reaching social + environmental costs are dumped on fenceline communities.

For >10yrs Trans-Tasman Resources failed consents to SBM in the Sth Taranaki Bight bc of destruction it will cause to marine enviros. But the bar is so low w/ the Luxon govt now, even TTR’s lazy, negligible application could get a green light. Blue whales, kororā, Māui & Hector dolphins are @ risk
