The delay until at least 2032 shows the Cook Is govt is feeling pressure from a growing movement that knows seabed mining is too risky, too destructive, and nowhere near the “economic benefit for all” it’s being sold as.

What I observed in Ōpunake a week ago was an activation of people from all walks of life - Mana moana, young people, surfers, farmers, NGOs, tangata tiriti, tangata whenua - on this one waka, energise and ready to send TTR on its way and stop seabed mining before it gets a chance to start
It was so good to be in Ōpunake to support a paddle-out in protest against seabed mining on the weekend. Make sure to sign out petition that calls on Chris Hipkins to take a stand against seabed mining.

This Luxon govt so badly wants to simp for grossly rich polluters, at the expense of their own rights and damn their grandkids’ wellbeing while they’re at. 🤢🤮 What an embarrassment this govt is.

Reason # 7365 to #StopSeabedMining b4 it starts. “blue whales are successfully breeding off the Taranaki coast, but their future is under threat from climate change.” Luxon govt’s already weak & reckless on biodiversity, climate & SBM will be the nail in the coffin www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3606...

Colonisers of the Global Nth have exploited the Pacific for ‘resources’, land, nuclear testing, militarism & never meaningfully compensated or apologised for their destruction. Who could ever believe the greenwash used by wannabe deep sea miners to justify destroying our ocean?
