OECD pillar 1 and 2 compromise is supposed to stop countries' individual DSTs. The US lets some tax revenue from bigtech go to the countries that buy their products, those countries agree to a minimum corporate tax rate to reduce offshoring. Delays (often the US's fault) are making that harder.

The author goes on to say Thomas may not have to have reported income if his billionaire buddy filed gift taxes on $260k forgiven loan - but afaict that just means there's two tax returns the Senate should be investigating.

There was a lot of misinformation (and just bad information) during the pandemic about the employee credits, but also a lot of plain fraud. So much fraud the IRS is just admitting they're never going to be able to address most of it and are instead giving everyone a free do-over.

Curious to read when published, but it seems a little much to say that optics plays an "outsized" role in tax reform vs. expert opinion. Congress and the President responding to public opinion instead of yielding to regulatory capture is not a failure of sound policy.

It's always been jarring that the normal liberal and conservative rhetoric is turned upside down for the SALT deduction. A fairly liberal org says the SALT cap results in "double taxation" (pretty disingenuous) and calls for a repeal of the first genuine tax increase on high-earners in decades.
