Ah, I now see that Trump has called for the mayor of Chicago and Illinois’ governor to be jailed. Probably a good time to read something about how he’ll invoke the Insurrection Act next.

It is imperative that cities and states create barriers to prevent anyone who was hired by ICE during this period from becoming cops.

Ideally, every agent exhibiting this behavior should be shamed out of any positions that remotely carry any power or authority.

I don't doubt that Trumpism will soon crumble and things will return to a seeming normal. But what worries me is whether we will again make the mistake of offering impunity to these degenerates because if so, we're just waiting around for fascism that sticks.

(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Simply stunning: Bondi cannot say offhand how many undocumented immigrants — not even a rough number! — are in the nation’s third largest city. This is the purported REASON for increased ICE operations and subsequent Guard deployment there.

Instead, Bondi mentions attacks on officers.

Few days ago the Strib reported that a deputy of one of the highest-ranking officials in the government was openly discussing sending the 82ND AIRBORNE into U.S. cities and the story died on the table.

If this were the case, the Department of Justice would have said so in myriad federal court filings just in the past few days in both Oregon and Chicago.

The government has not said this — because to do so would require proof.

Section 12406 allows deployment only in the event of foreign invasion, a rebellion, or inability to enforce federal laws.

Becoming clear — not just in Chicago but many places — that these agents are ignoring training or don’t have it, for crowd control, arrests, or anything else.

There are some very real questions about who these agents are and what training they’ve received. Experienced cops don’t act like this.

I've never seen such escalation and use of force toward ends I just could not see. There was no real property destruction, no pushing into the neighborhoods to make arrests, very little obstructing of traffic. Saw chemicals and bangs deployed down streets the feds were not facing and did not travel.

Chaos in Brighton Park. This is representative of the amount / direction of pepper and smoke sent into the neighborhood, in this case, for no reason I can discern other than because they were leaving. Feds had a clear path out in a different direction, and residents were vocal but not violent here.
