This makes me so happy! We had gopher tortoises on our property in Georgia and before we sold our house I called a couple of places to see if there was a way to protect the land they were on, but it wasn't feasible, I hope they are still ok.

Exciting news for Gopher Tortoises!

The Georgia #GopherTortoise Conservation Initiative recently reached its goal of permanently protecting 65 tortoise populations across the state!

$A pre dawn photo of three planets, and a few stars, in the dark sky. Much of the background sky is very dark. Near the bottom of the image there is a color gradient, from deep indigo, to a light yellow, to a dusky orange at the horizon. A few mountains provide a gentle silhouette along the horizon. Along that horizon, to the left side, there is one point of light very close to a small peak. That is the planet Mercury. It is in the yellow part of the sky gradient. Much higher up, and just right of center is a very bright point, with diagonal diffraction spike from lower left to upper right. This is the bright planet Venus. There are many dim stars all around at varying distances from it. In the upper right corner of the image is another bright point. That is Jupiter. It also has a number of dim stars scattered around it's area. Above Venus, and to the left of center along the top, are two stars of almost the same brightness, and just off being directly in line vertically. These are Pollux (the lower), and Castor (the upper), the two "head" stars of the Twins in the constellation Gemini.$
