Austin, Texas. Rice Grad.
Attorney; Board-certified in Civil Appellate. Huge USWNT fan. DS9 remains as the best Trek ever.
I'm looking for something more like "KILL THE FASCISTS!!" maybe toned down a notch or two.

Which do we end up with: Skynet or being assimilated as Borg?

Does the slogan have something to do with installing linoleum or hanging sheet rock?

That's the sense I get from it.

Certainly there were some earlier ripples with some eye candy female superheroes. Women had strong roles in some Westerns.

Your point is fine, but "Alien" was the bigger movie and Ripley IS the film.

Yet, the first true female action character to dominate a film is probably Foxy Brown from 1974.

I didn't, and neither have either of my state's Senators nor my representative in the House.

Either Art. 1, Sec. 8, or the War Powers Resolution of 1973 is relevant here. Nor is there any Authorization for Use of Military Force (an "AUMF") in the works.

Here in Texas, we're looking to see what they do with the redistricting battle. The filing deadline for Congressional races is 8 days away.

There's a strong likelihood they say, "We don't reach the merits, but it would be too disruptive to go back to the map that existed before ... August."

He thinks holding an elected office gives him an ownership interest in the government and its assets.

He's been the head of the Trump Organization -- which he owned -- for too long to think otherwise. It's a dim bulb view, but he has lots of practice being a dim bulb.

Wicker is R-Mississippi. I probably disagree with him on 98.5% of most issues.

But, he's also a former Air Force JAG. When he promises "vigorous oversight" of Secretary Hegseth's conduct, it's something to watch.

There are limits to what the Rs can stand. Cold-blooded murder may, I hope, be one.

Few things are truly new. Beyond being light entertainment (again just the first movie), Luke and Leia echo the stories of Apollo and his sister Diana.

I had that exact exchange with MAGA some days back.

In response to my questioning Trump's legal authority (on promising tariff dividends), I got, "He's the President. That's all the authority he needs."

Senator Wicker (R-MS) is not only Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he's also a former Air Force JAG (Judge Advocate General). That's not good for Secretary Hegseth.

Lucas purposefully patterned Star Wars after Saturday afternoon matinee B movies. At least the original film wasn't to be taken *that* seriously.

E.g. When, Luke and Leia swing across the gap on a cable, it's like a stunt Errol Flynn would have done.

Vader is a villain to be booed and hissed at.

I'd see that he's detained and immediately -- without any notice or hearing -- relocated to the custody of whoever in Venezuela or Colombia wants him.

Such total disrespect for the flag. It's not his to molest like this. And it was just performance in trying to co-opt the symbols while ignoring the substance.

He cares nothing about the Constitution or the rule of law because he doesn't know anything about either of them.

It will be forever different. There may be some movement towards "the way things were," but it won't be the same.

Take the destruction of the East Wing of the White House as a metaphor for the damage they're doing.

As to 1997, any film with Jenny Agutter can't be that bad.

For 1982, I suggest "Megaforce." It's hilariously horrible.

It still strikes me as awesome that Wilder, Hitchcock, Kurosawa, and Fellini were all making films at the same time.

Sigourney's Ellen Ripley opened the door for the "female action hero." Linda Hamilton as Sarah Conner wasn't far behind.
