His pressing is usually pretty top and I can see how he helps in that regard but he’s just not what we need.

Agree with your CJ comparison to some extent, but he was the first striker brought in during the summer and for not insignificant wages. Expected more than an ‘experienced head’ for that.

Yep. Absolutely insane that we’re back in this position, given where we’d got to.
February 1, 2026 at 7:41 PM
Amen to that. And 2020, for all the current criticism, are not charlatans.

If we make the playoffs this season, great. But I’m coming to accept that we’ll have to again next season.

100%. Some of his interplay yesterday was great. Having him as a rotation option with Clark, Walsh and Kodua will hopefully be productive.

Just need a striker to give us a presence up top and between the sticks.

I’m less sour on Wells than back in Oct but he’s clearly not the answer there.

I’m hoping it’s Still 2012-13 or Jones 15/16 rather than Blackwell 2007.
February 1, 2026 at 6:57 PM
Yep. Agreed.

There’s definitely a player in there but he wasn’t the finished article we needed last season and the club isn’t stable enough for him this season.

We’re still missing that ball carrying no.8 to break lines and that should have been LFD. Hoping Palmer might be that for now.

Just responded with my thoughts on your post.

There’s a clear out, certainly. Whether that’s to your point or whether it’s to make the books balance after burning through the lottery winnings and staring down another L1 season in 26/27 is yet to be seen.

Feels like the board is preparing for a second L1 season.

Whether that’s cutting our cloth accordingly or clearing out players JW doesn’t rate in order to stockpile a war chest for the summer, I’ll let you decide.

At least this guy got to jump it seems, rather than the standard push.

How have we let ourselves fall below that lot again.
February 1, 2026 at 5:46 PM
Athletic but I have a better touch than him. Can see why he’s not Jack’s type.

My concern is more that it shows how poor and disjointed the long term squad planning is.

Christ was signed by RE as one for the future, played extensively by MB and now deemed not technically good enough for JW.

At least Carlton was of an age where he could (and did) grow.

And you’re right about it being a good signing for a middling League One side. But if that’s what we’re now aiming for then we might as well just shut down the season and play kids rather than burn yet more cash.

Mads’ passing has never been his strong point and it was half a second slower than it could have been, but for me he still gave Walsh enough in this instance.

Walsh on his heels costs us, but could Mengi/Clark/Palmer have given him a shout?

And we all dream of a team of Ian Ropers still, right?

Was always a weird one. Him and Gbode to me seemed like a plan B when it looked like the AAH deal wouldn’t get done. Then that was on again and so we did both. Massive waste of cash.

Really do think we’ll have a player in AAH next season once he’s fit. Could be perfect for our re-run of L1.
January 30, 2026 at 6:49 PM
Outlaws. Half that board believe Reform are the answer and so I’m not falling back on their ability to critically think.

Does make it fertile ground for a good conspiracy or two though.
January 30, 2026 at 6:47 PM
I think it’s probably worse than nothing as it’ll limit minutes for AAH & Eli, plus lower his price at the end of the season (if he’s not out of contract).

And I have theories that I might post about come the close of the window. None as sexy as grand conspiracy & board member’s new Bentleys, mind.
January 30, 2026 at 3:45 PM
He’s on loan but I can’t see him being the answer.

We need a strong, mobile, technically proficient striker who can play as a target man. Basically, a fit Eli or AAH. Problem is, we won’t have that this season. So then do you stick or twist & buy another, just to be lumbered with three next season?
January 30, 2026 at 3:19 PM
and he’s catastrophically failed at that.

I haven’t been a GS outter but after this window and the continued lack of direction and purpose from the club (beyond rose-tinted reviews of FA cup games from two seasons ago?!), I do think it’s time for new leadership.
