Do you elaborate as to why? I’m not sure, as an author, how I could constructively act upon those. I prefer things like “you intro a loaded pistol in paragraph 1, and it never goes off.”

Learning to *give* useful fiction critique is, I hope, part of the pedagogy of the class. ”I think the author wants me to see the character this way, but I am also getting” or “I’m not sure if the ambiguity is deliberate“ or “this took me out of the story.”

I've taken over my mother's Christmas card list. I expect the number to decline every year, but it's been good to re-connect with cousins. I also think the octogenarian and older folks (most of the list) appreciate snail mail even more than the texting generations.
