I ride a bike therefore I care about cities. Also love rock climbing, RPGs, SFF, heavy metal & martial arts. From Wolastoqiyik territory, living in Anishinaabe territory. She/her but not a sonofabitch about it.

Also, I'm not in Toronto but I'm pretty sure I've heard about more than one cyclist *dying* on Avenue Road

they do really seem to have been bandwagoned by a bunch of convoy/sovereign citizen types as well.... it's a rabbit hole for sure

I'm cursed with having to know WAY too much about this ostrich farm, because of work, and the story keeps getting weirder and dodgier

Still think this track, recommended by a friend, is kind of emblematic of our party

Last session tonight of the Warhammer Fantasy game we started at the very beginning of the covid lockdowns. And THAT's a weird feeling. Farewell Bridesmaids, you were one hell of a crew.

Hey, now, I'm responsible for my own poor choices 😂

Resigned to getting absolutely soaked on the ride home because I didn't bring rain gear but also still needing to work myself up to going out there

Once again, speed cameras work.

It was certainly a minefield of confidently incorrect people and concern trolls.

Someone on here: just got a deal on a folding ebike, it's great!
Someone else: I'm just going to assume you don't already have an ebike and give you advice about them catching fire. I'm also going to go on a whole thread, and point out specifically that I actually don't know anything about ebikes
Cassady: Just remember that lithium batteries catch fire.
James: Very rarely and easily preventable: you can buy a fireproof charging bag.
Cassady: I get the concept. But you would think that a charging bag would make the battery even WARMER. Admittedly, there are a trillion e-bikes in New York City, but in NYC, e-bikes are bursting into flames CONSTANTLY.
Cassady: I'm guessing the mistake delivery guys make is that 1. they buy very cheap batteries (or old USED batteries) and 2. use "fast chargers" that are a little TOO powerful. I have zero credentials, but I would suggest people get a slow charger and keep an EYE on the bikes while they're charging.
Cassady: And be aware of what kinds of materials are ABOVE it or NEAR it while it's being charged. My theory is: Never Worry about ANYTHING, EVER. (uninterpretable emoji) Just have good habits.

Did not have a chance to stop and get a picture but I biked past a Cooper's hawk sitting in one of the trees lining Morningside Lane in the Experimental Farm this morning. Spotted it because of the crows that had been trying to hassle it. Perks of commuting by bike, number I-lost-count :-)

Recently had a conversation at work about it and tried pretty hard to leave it at "I have a position on helmets and helmet laws, yes I have thought it through, I hear you that someone you know skidded out and got a head injury, that's awful" because it's just too complex a subject for the office

It's like the trees are passing the moon to each other. Supermoon tonight on my ride home from getting groceries.
A twilight shot of an open field with trees in the background. There are a couple of trees at either side with branches extending across the sky. Where the branches meet is a large peachy-coloured moon.

Oh HECK yeah, that sounds great (and I was looking for a simple borscht recipe!) I do SO MANY roasted and pureed root soups this time of year. Last night was "beta-carotene soup" - carrot and sweet potato with red curry and coconut milk. Also have squash-apple teed up for sometime soon

Borscht has been on my to-do list for a while, somehow I've never managed to make time for it. I probably should.

Huh, burgers. Like just - slice a beet into pucks and roast them? I've seen burgers with beets ON them, but never burgers that WERE beets. I am intrigued.

Mmm yeah, I've done them like that in a skillet before but didn't think to throw an egg on it. (somehow, just cooking sprouts and putting them on a plate doesn't feel like dinner but if you chuck a protein in there, boom)

Beets in brownies?!? I mean of course I guess, that's kind of like tomato soup cake where the moisture and sweetness comes from the veg. I love it! I've preserved them before but I'm not a huge sandwich person so it takes a LONG time for me to use up a jar. (but, have none right at present...)

Farm share continues to get heavier and more filling, because it's fall. The challenge will be the sprouts and the beets, because I don't really do side dishes (I live alone: I don't need the extra pots and pans or the math to make only enough for one person) - hit me with ideas if you got em!
A counter bedecked with veggies: beets, carrots, potatoes, acorn squash, broccoli, cauliflower, purple brussels sprouts, a bell pepper, some apples
