Sometimes, your household needs new medium plates.

And sometimes, the thrift store delivers SPECTACULARLY.
A plate with a drawing of a chicken dressed as a sultry lounge singer, reclining on a piano. A plate with a drawing of a chicken dressed as a wealthy and drunk bar patron. A plate with a chicken dressed as a lounge singer, rocking out at the mic. A plate with a chicken bartender behind a bar on it.

Thank you for coming out to blather! It was very entertaining! Probably see you in person again in another 5–7 years, at which point I hope the wombat wristwarmers will still be going strong.
kadharonon.bsky.social
Which is admittedly about the amount of time I expect to spend thinking about animal genitalia after seeing you talk, but still a bit of a curveball.

You told the story about the sea cucumber gonads AND THEN you mentioned they were trying to decide whether to place your novella with a Rat In Fancy Clothes in fantasy or romantasy and kept asking you how explicit it was going to be, so I ended the evening thinking about rat testicle size.

It was lovely to listen to you ramble out loud again instead of reading your rambles online! Perhaps I will again see you briefly in another 5-7 years, at which point I hope the wombat wrist warmers will still be functional. (Still shocked they’re in one piece, given all the places they’ve gone.)

T Kingfisher: *talking about her publisher trying to place her fantasy romance with a Large White Rat Man and it coming down to how explicit it is*

Me: *trying very hard not to think about how male rats have really large testicles compared to their body sizes*

(And also being amused that "gobbo" simultaneously works as shorthand for goblin in English but maybe also kind of could be slang for "mouthsounds" in Orlekra, given the vocab we're given in the audition script.)
kadharonon.bsky.social
I briefly considered putting in an audition for her before realizing I am not at all set up for getting clean sound just because I was having so much fun attempting Orlekra.

We always knew you'd come into your own as a Terminator one of these days.

As someone who has been following you around since the days of Elfwood, this is. How to say. A little bit surreal to see? In a good way, but. Y’know.

Reminder to my fellow fortysomething-year-olds that, if you want to go into a Hot Topic to buy Lackadaisy shirt and support indie animation, you are allowed. No one can stop you

Ivy is very much enjoying being a Hot Topic. Freckle doesn't know what he's doing here. (Thank you Lisa R, for the photo!)

Lackadaisy stuff now in some Hot Topic stores! Keep an eye out for more popping up soon.

He's the poor man's god...

Hazel from The Bardic Hearth (with bonus Guile)
A digital drawing of Hazel, a white woman with dark hair and eyes, looking contemplatively off to one side and holding a face-out playing card to her lips. The playing card is a red Joker with a rather life-like Guile on it, holding a hand of cards of his own and looking up at Hazel's face.

I hoped to get more of these done before the end of the fest, but I think I'm going to have to call it. Those chronic illnesses sure are illnessing.

Another trio of recs! Fantasy podcasts, this time.
The front and back cover of a one-page minizine.

Cover Front: Three Fantasy Podcasts

Cover Back: A minizine of podcast recs by kadharonon-art A two-page spread from a mini-zine

Spread 1 top: Absolutely No Adventures

Spread 1 Bottom: A black and white lineart illustration of Bea and Happy crowded around Sig, who is pulling a tray of cronuts out of an (implied to be in the position of the viewer) oven. Bea is pumping her fist in the air and Happy is stealing a cronut with his bare hand.

Spread 1 left text:
Sig (my son with every prophecy) does his best to avoid every adventure that comes his way with the help of his best friend Happy (an Aberrant One) and Bea (a normal human woman from our world).

Spread 1 right text:
Join them as they do a lot of baking, avoid a lot of adventures, and make a lot of new friends... and, unfortunately, end up on an adventure or two along the way anyway. Whoops. Spread 2 left text: Starfall

A mysterious, martial scarecrow of a woman with a gigantic magical sword joins up with a traveling theater troupe and learns everything she was never taught about life, love, and being part of a community.

Spread 2 right text: Leona is often lost and confused in her new life, but the members of the Carouvel Traveling Acting Troupe are there for her through it all.

Spread 2 bottom: a black and white illustration of a cart on a path at a distance, just passing off the page in the distance, while Leona watches in the foreground, her sword propped on her shoulder. Spread 3 left text: The Bardic Hearth

An amnesiac bard guards a well of wishes for the goddess of death, gathering the stories of all who come. Meanwhile, in the wider world, a young woman tries to solve the mystery of why [redacted] [redacted] is fading from the world...

The season 1 finale assembles a Chekov's firing squad out of the hints the rest of the season presented, and it's GLORIOUS.

Spread 3 right: A black and white drawing of Mortaine, Goddess of Death, standing behind Wren, the amnesiac bard. He's sitting on a stool, playing his guitar, and her hand is on his shoulder.

Gotta make art! to stave off the horrors! If I can recommend other people's art along the way, that's good too!
kadharonon.bsky.social
...this made my brain produce the mental image of little mind dung beetles, rolling balls of idea-shit around until they get big enough to be useful.
kadharonon.bsky.social
Because in the end, well, we’ve all got to eat. And making a living off of art and writing is so precarious to begin with that it doesn’t really matter whether someone is “indie” or not in that space because no one’s got money anyway.
kadharonon.bsky.social
I’m not sure how that translates to graphic novels, but it’s also so much easier to self publish these days and also easier to get a wider variety of things traditionally published that the lines are getting really blurry, but I also think it doesn’t matter which someone is…
kadharonon.bsky.social
I think in writing publishing people tend to call themselves indie authors if they’ve got significant income coming from multiple streams, so someone who puts out as much self-published stuff as traditionally-published and relies on tips/Patreon for a large portion of their income would be indie.
