Just Atlandi-ülesed julgeole...

As President Donald Trump upends the U.S. foreign policy, negotiating closer relations with Russia, threatening NATO allies and pausing cooperation with Ukraine, Washington’s traditional partners — and best customers — are rethinking their dependence on American weapons systems.
Trump turbulence leads allies to rethink reliance on U.S. weapons
European capitals are reviewing vulnerabilities and want to wean themselves from dependence on American weapons, but expanding homegrown options will take time.

Witkoff's repeating of Kremlin lies about "russian-speakers" wanting to "join Russia" is truly chilling. This is nothing less than carte blanche for Putin's genocidal imperialism. Hearing Americans talk like this should be an electric shock for Europe, not a wakeup call.

The US is stopping military aid to Ukraine, prioritizing peace talks, said Trump administration spokesperson Karoline Leavitt. We are no longer going to write blank checks for a war in a very distant country without real lasting peace, she added.

Kaja Kallas declared that Europe will back Ukraine if it rejects a U.S.-Russia deal.

In my view Hegseth also said positive things, like support for "a sovereign and prosperous Ukraine", the need for a "durable peace" - things Putin will try to resist. But Europe must convince US to play a role in an eventual ceasefire monitoring - unless it won't be durable

2/2 What Europe should offer is rather security guarantees through air control and advanced hi-tech monitoring of the demarcation line with sensors, drones, and satellites -enforced with air power and other mobile assets.

1/2 The idea of European peacekeepers in 🇺🇦 in case of a cesefire is totally unrealistic. Europe simply doesn't have the troops. The idea is also very "20th Century", such as 🇧🇦 and 🇽🇰.

Ikke enig i overskriften. Kommenterer i artikkelen.

How Americans and the world handle Donald Trump "will determine much about the next four years, and it will ask much from all of us," the New York Times editorial board writes. "We must meet the moment."
