I agree but I don't know what we do about it. Before it was legal the mob basically ran it anyway. Betting was pretty common in every job I have had and we all knew it was "dirty." If we banned it again it would just go underground again. So what to do?

No. In fact the party was very left in the 1930s and 40s and arguably did more for the American working class, in a 20-30 year period, than British Labour in the same period. Roosevelt basically co-opted much of the American Socialist agenda for his "New Deal."
