I love NYC for a lot of reasons but one is that I stepped outside & gasped at the beauty of the full moon & thought: I need to talk about this!!! & a nice older man at the crosswalk asked, “The moon, right?” & fist bumped me, then said, “Take care!” & we moved on in our separate yet shared wonder.

Everything good that happened in my writing career happened because someone, normally another writer, helped me. Suggested me for something, put in a good word, and so on. The idea was always that you help others and they help others in their turn. It's not a win or lose game.

On the 1 train right now and the conductor’s voice is so melodic I’d ride to the end of the line if I didn’t have an appointment. Hope he moonlights as a radio show host.

When I say “I’m feeling really outdoorsy lately” I mean I used a carabiner on my tote bag to carry my Shake Shack order home after going to a lecture at the American Museum of Natural History.
