Growing up in New Mexico in the late 90s and 2000s it was always common to see the Rio Grande low. But now with the threat of climate change and the pecan industry the river is a "commodity" that is worsening a crisis. Thanks for highlighting and updating us, @jeremyjmiller.bsky.social
Great taking with my great editor Ted Ross from @thefern.org about my latest story for @highcountrynews.org about the rise of pecans in southern New Mexico and the decline of the iconic river, the Rio Grande, upon which they depend.
In the latest REAP/SOW Extra episode, reporter Jeremy Miller describes the irony of how, despite facing a mega drought, New Mexico produces vast amounts of pecans — not for local consumption, but instead for export to Canada, China, and beyond.

Thrilled to share this piece about how tax incentives created back in 2018 helped spur data center growth in Georgia, dubbing it the 'Wild West' of data centers.

How many data centers are in Georgia? Even experts aren’t sure.
How Georgia became the ‘wild west’ of data centers. Is transparency on the horizon?
Tax breaks prompted significant data center growth in Georgia. Residents are growing concerned as more pop up.

Taxes for schools and a giant lake nearby make this interesting….

Western Georgia had its first ever Disaster Resilience conference. It couldn’t be better timed as the country endured four, one in 1,000 year floods in one week in July; Texas, North Carolina, New Mexico and Illinois. And as I type this more extreme rainfall events have occurred in DC and Maryland.
