The thing about establishments calling themselves third places is that usually they're not real, freely accessible third places and I think we need to start holding them accountable. Don't say you're addressing a need in the community when the only need you're addressing is filling your pocketbook

I wrote about this in my book. People all over America were convinced their location would be the first destroyed in a nuclear war. Everyone had their own reason, some plausible, some not. People drew grim comfort from this.
But the most likely, as far as I could tell, was Nebraska.

The best thing that my 7th/8th grade social studies teacher did for us was point out that we lived 2 miles away from a plant that made pumps for US Nuclear Submarines and therefore was a target for a USSR nuke. He told us we'd die instantly that close to Ground Zero which was honestly a huge relief.
