The large bowl the monk carries is known as ‘Bat’, these bowls have remained the same design for generations and are still made by traditional communities in Thailand. One such community in Bangkok represents a good example of a Thai traditional way of life. They are shipped to other countries
There are still a small number of families traditionally making Bat. Ann Nakarat is a fourth-generation artisan who started her craft ten years ago, she was taught by her father and brother. She is sitting on the floor cross-legged while bending over a steel plate placing cut lines with a marker and ruler. It takes around two days to produce a Bat using traditional methods. Ann Nakarat is sitting on the floor cross-legged in front of a metal bending machine. There used to be over 100 families here, but now there are just three. Most feel that this will be the last generation of making bowls by hand. In Buddhist folklore, there is a guardian for each of the four cardinal points (north, east, south, and west). After the Buddha achieved enlightenment, each guardian presented him with an alms bowl. The Buddha could not favour one guardian over the other and so he formed the four bowls into one bowl. The cross shape that forms the base of the bowls made at Ban Batt represents the four cardinal points and their guardians A "Bat" or monk's bowl is ready to be sanded. Once the frame is complete, the gaps are filled with individual pieces of steel all welded to the existing frame with melted copper wire. The steel bowl is hammered into shape before being polished and treated with a protective lacquer.

"Burden Of Beauty"
In some cultures, women are judged and valued primarily based on physical appearance. The term "burden" highlights the negative consequences and stress associated with constantly striving to meet these unrealistic beauty standards.
A teenage girl from the Karen tribal group in Burma is shown wearing brass rings wrapped around her neck. From the age of five, young girls’ necks are wrapped in brass coils, pushing the collar bone down and collapsing the lungs so that, by the time they are teens, their necks appear to be elongated. The reality is, that the appearance of a longer neck is a visual illusion. The weight of the brass rings has over the years pushed down and deformed the collar bone plus the upper ribs, to such an effect that the collarbone appears to be part of the neck. A teenage girl from the Hamar tribe in southern Ethiopia is showing her scarifications, which are a sign of beauty in these tribes. Cicarization creates raised scars. People may add ash and certain organic saps to the cut in order to make the scarring more prominent and/or embellished. A pubescent girl has removed the very tight cotton wrappings around her knees and ankles, which make her calves bulge enormously. This is a sign of beauty in a Xinguano girl from the Xingu region of Brazil. At adolescence, girls enter a period of seclusion during which they must live behind a partition, honour a variety of food taboos, speak in a soft voice, and refrain from going outdoors during daylight hours. They must master various crafts taught to them by their parents. The period of seclusion is remarkably long, and can last for several years. A woman from the Apatani tribe is shown with large wooden plugs in her nostrils. She has also had her lower front teeth removed. The Apatani tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, known for their unique cultural practices, historically had a custom of removing teeth, particularly the lower incisors, as a sign of adulthood and beauty. According to legend, women from this tribe are so beautiful that men from other tribes would try to kidnap them. The popular explanation behind this peculiar tradition has an interesting origin: back in pre-modern times, the Apatani women were considered the most beautiful in the surrounding valleys. And because men from surrounding tribes, especially the Mising, had started to kidnap them, Apatani men decided to “conceal” their women’s beauty using those crude facial tattoos and large nose plugs.

Most of the Sadhu, in Nepal, live in the Pashupatinath Temple, a famous, sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupatinath. Sadhus are sanyasi, or renunciates, who have left behind all material and sexual attachments and live in caves, forests, and temples all over India and Nepal.
