Oh boy, oh boy. The temps drop and the crockpot comes out. Today's deliciousness is vegetarian chili, adapted from Sally's turkey chili recipe. What's simmering in your crockpot?
A pottery bowl full of chili sits on the cutting board on the kitchen counter. Hungry goldendoodle watches in the background.

Our only real enemy is the belief that this world is filled with enemies to be conquered rather than filled with neighbors to be loved.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

I would use those gorgeous habaneros for making Jamaican Rice and Peas. Such good flavour and heat!

Kiddo pointed out how they emphasized the trauma of removing the 2YO from the only home she'd ever known — while not saying the same about the 1/3 Indian children who had been forcibly removed from their homes. So much trauma in every direction.

There was just no clear, simple decision to be made and even the decision handed down by the Supreme Court was garbage in terms of rationale — but safe, I suppose.

New rule: your neighbourhood gets one NIMBY veto and then you are at the top of the list for whatever comes next. Use your NIMBY veto wisely because you wouldn't want to waste it on homeless seniors and get what's behind door number two! 🤣

I think that might actually be his plan 🤔 Especially for his tunnel highways.

If you want to engage in some significant critical thinking, listen to this podcast. We just heard it & kiddo could not handle how messy it was, with no simple answers. He had to pause it repeatedly to ask BIG questions about serious implications. So challenging! www.wnycstudios.org/story/adopti...
Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl
One case that puts a little girl at the center of a storm of legal intricacies, Native American tribal culture, and heart-wrenching personal stakes.

This just keeps getting worse. The Ford government gave $2 million to a dental brokerage run by a PC donor connected to the minister’s family.

Doug Ford’s Skills Development Fund keeps looking more like a friends-and-family plan.💰 #onpoli

My homeschooled kiddo is giggling about 6 7 in math class today & he doesn't even go to middle school 🤣

I told him I would have shut that down so quickly, by fully embracing it — wearing my 67 shirt and saying it all the time until it was a teacher thing and NOT COOL. Appropriation for the win 🤣

My child was born at 25 weeks — so very early. He spent 124 days in the NICU at a cost of about $4K per night. I paid $100 per month for a parking pass so I could be there every day. That was our only charge at the hospital. Thank you, Canada, for universal healthcare.

Is there any place more joyful than a dog beach? Port Burwell, October 5th, 28°C.
A man and a boy are in the shallow water along the shore of Lake Erie. The sun is so bright that they are just silhouettes. There are three dogs gathered around them, hoping that one of them will throw a ball.

In Ontario, school boards are under attack by the provincial government. Premier Ford wants to get rid of them — removing local control and oversight from school boards.
