New from me: For the past several weeks, dozens of Facebook pages have been running hundreds of ads featuring deepfakes of Elon Musk, Fox New hosts and other public figures claiming Musk can cure diabetes. It's part of an elaborate scam to sell supplements that purport to help treat diabetes.

“She plays to an audience of 200 people,” one Hollywood executive with ties to Weiss told Variety. “It just happens to be that audience is made up of people like Jeff Bezos and Bill Ackman. The superrich f------ love her.”

I got so much hate for being skeptical of a ban and pointing out that there has never been any tangible evidence that the Chinese government is manipulating the TikTok algorithm. Wonder if they all feel so much safer from the scary TikTok algo now

I preferred sand for me/my face but I saw some folks wearing the black frames and thought it looked good on them. There are also two sizes of frames, regular and large so there’s a bit of variation. Sand is also a bit translucent which might not be everyone’s thing

Meta’s new Ray-Ban Display glasses. These are def thicker than their other smart glasses but 1) my face is kinda narrow so all Wayfarers look wide on me 2) they are wayyy more “normal” looking than any other glasses I’ve tried with an lcos display. More: www.engadget.com/wearables/me...

the one trick mods don’t want you to know
A Bluesky appeal for suspension. The reason for appeal is a line from Mean Girls:

These days I'm very much on the side of "keep your phone as long as possible and don't upgrade until you have to" .. for a lot of people the limiting factor ends up being storage so I'm happy that Apple finally upped its base amount of storage. www.engadget.com/mobile/smart...
All of the new iPhones start with 256GB of storage. Finally.
All of the new phones share one important upgrade you might have missed during Apple's 72-minute livestream: they all start at 256GB of storage.

NEW: i spoke to nine (!) scientists across several disciplines whose work was cited in the new Department of Energy report that downplays the severity of climate change. all of them say their work was misrepresented, cherry picked, and/or lacked context —

New from me: LinkedIn quietly removed references to deadnaming and misgendering from its hateful content policy this week. The company says it's underlying rules have not changed but advocates say it's part of a trend to loosen rules meant to protect vulnerable users.

Yep! I talked about this in a review I just did of the Oakley glasses .. the cameras and speakers are useful in certain scenarios (bike rides) when you want your hands to be more free but the AI features still feel like they’re trying to find a problem to solve (translation maybe being an exception)
