4/ I would have been banned from voting for 20 years under this rule. The cost of a passport is prohibitive for low-income people, as it would have been for me as a young married mom.

The restriction on citizen voting rights is of course the point for the Act’s Republican supporters.

3/ More personal to me, it disallows 69 million married women who changed their name from casting a ballot without passport in hand.

It will allow a current US passport as proof of citizenship for married women.

I was 39 years old when I got my first passport.

2/ ...that includes a birth certificate with the same name as one’s current government ID. For MAGA Republicans, it’s a win/win to disenfranchise voters. Republicans get to disenfranchise trans citizens who no longer identify as their birth gender.
