Yes. In my anger at injustice, I find myself (hopefully inadvertently) ramping up the outrage by emphasizing the innocence of the victim. But justice is for everybody. If it only applies to special groups, we end up back with rule of law and justice for rich white men only.
Hoping that people of good will can someday understand that when we qualify our condemnation of state violence against targeted groups with "and they had no criminal record," we actually help hasten and justify that state violence against everyone, with or without a criminal record.
