Delighted to announce the new Far Field playtest version is now out over on Pilot NET. This version features a bunch of rules updates, new GM compendium content, and some sick cover art from @dofresh.bsky.social!

A space explorer with dark skin and hair stands atop a mountain with her colleagues. She holds her spacesuit helmet in her hand and looks out at the foggy alien landscape beyond, which contains great arching mountains and the partial disk of a ringed gas giant. The title, in large blocky font, is the words "FAR FIELD", and the Massif Press logo appears in the bottom right corner.

Finally pushed through and posted the new Far Field playtest draft!

As always the latest draft is pinned in the far-field-general channel in Pilot NET. Go check it out, and let me know what you think!

Inculcate a sense of wonder. Throw in extraneous details. Add a monolith. Never explain it. Highlight the unknowable. Place the absence of a clue, never to be recovered. Resist the urge to tie it all up neatly. Encourage exploration and elaboration, but for each horizon crossed add multiple more.

Not a lot of people know this but it's actually a job requirement for social media CEOs to be tone-deaf incompetent losers

Can’t shout out the one-shot game jam enough! There’s some really cool stuff in there and a lot of lovely people too!!! Here’s a few neat ones;

Isa has a really nuts ambitious one called Souls Weighed down with like, ten different branching combats???? And maps for all of them???!? Absolutely mad

Sorry if I've missed some folks off the list here, there's been a whole lot going on recently and it's hard to keep track of it all!

Also, keep your eyes peeled! There's a big Lancer third party itch bundle coming up which should contain a whole lot of stuff you might not have seen before!

Other releases in the last three months include Blood Money by pigsriot, Stellar Codex by MissDataNinja, The Sixth Voice by Bela, and a whole bunch of community-written missions. Plus, the one-shot jam!

The third party Lancer scene is for sure one of the coolest in the TTRPG industry. Two big projects releasing/out on kickstarter just in the last month:

Iphigenia at Midnight by Ash and Gold

Fortunately not near me, but that's probably due to this area being filled with the kind of upper-middle class tories who prefer less-populist flavours of fascism

if anyone's looking for an artist for a short-medium term project give me a nudge, I'm likely weeks away from accepting one offer or another so it would be extremely good timing 🫡

don't suppose anyone's looking for a contract artist for ttrpg/illustration stuff for the next 3-10 months? I'm in Glasgow but can work remote. email's in my bio 🌝 would hugely appreciate an opportunity to tide me over until uni entry!

It's rough. I know if there *is* a practical solution when the problems are structural, but bluesky at least has much better feed controls than the alternatives. Sometimes I wish I could just turn everything off entirely but I have too many friends online.

So we're clear, anyone taking this as an invitation to libpost on this thread can fuck right off, you are part of the problem

Breaking it up is a smart plan, I think it's going to be back to music-only for me

I used to take extended breaks from Twitter but I really don't want to do that here; the community is much cooler and I want to keep up with industry stuff. Instead I'm going to have to unfollow/mute people whose feeds are primarily politics - it's not personal, it's purely a self-care thing.

As someone with PTSD I am extremely vulnerable to the 24/7 fear-and-loathing news cycle. It is incredibly hard to stop constantly obsessing over the people and systems that are trying to hurt me and the people I love, as my hypervigilant brain tries to learn everything it possibly can to protect me.

I was wondering why my mental health has declined so much lately (chronic pain and disability stuff notwithstanding) until I realised that I have started reflexively opening news sites as part of my morning routine, and my youtube algo is 90% politics vids. Goddamn it, I hate how insidious this is.

Designers are waiting weeks, and in some cases months, for payouts from itch as sympathy for the indie game platform's mounting problems wears thin.

The indie platform’s payout delays are a symptom of a bigger issue.

I was doing everything I possibly could to stay in Act 1 and complete everything before moving on, and still ended up in Act 2 by accident. Well played Silksong.

I adore Seven-Part Pact and think it's doing some absolutely fascinating things. My investment reached the level that I coded a whole web tool to model the Orrery and the movements of the planets, and am now building a physical version

Been thinking about the mission I'm writing atm and decided that I should probably make my Squad tweaks into a fully-fledged template.

(The core of the template revolves around switching the Anti-Armor Weapon for one of a bunch of alternative options, letting the Squad fill more roles)

Ugh. Fashy xenophobic stickers starting to appear on poles in my town. Scratching that shit off wherever I see them, but might need to invest in some "refugees welcome" stickers for counterstickering.

Now it is so important, I feel, for writers and artist who contribute to the fictional spaces of play seen in ttrpgs n the like to write compelling stories that challenge (slay) the systems we live in. There is no escape (cowarding) from combating the type of systems that dehumanize and exploit.
