I’ve never understood the David Brent-esque, Gen-X affection for things like Fawlty Towers or Monty Python, but the John Cassavetes episode of Columbo is one of the best of hours of television you could ask for.

It’s Pynchon season coming up and one of the things he keeps coming back to in his later books is the idea of extremely powerful or straight-up evil people having a Road to Damascus moment where they try to make up for all the horror they’ve inflicted by using that power to make something right.
