@dublincitycouncil.bsky.social come in for some flak at times but it’s 8pm and there’s a crew outside the house dealing with a fallen tree and I’ve just got off the phone call from DCC about my application to fix my details on the register of electors. So fair play.

Is that not literally their job?

It’s a hellish road - def no longer fit for purpose and at very least needs to be no HGVs and should be one way (if not local access only)

Gavin has shown himself unfit to be President. This is why we should let our current President take a third term, despite his age. Who cares what the constitution says.

Does anyone ever say “hang on Mr President can I just check these facts?”
Or “I’ve read the book you refer to and those statements aren’t there”

All very well people posting zingy replies on SoMe but he is being enabled by those around him, and by those reporting his words and no one challenges him

Christ on a bike this is a terrible response to a question he must have expected.

Regarding the €3300 reportedly owed to a former tenant of his, Jim Gavin tells @aine-lawlor.bsky.social that he 'does not have all the information to date' and that he is 'looking into it'

We were very close to where people were gathering for this rally. Extraordinarily well mannered. No sense of trouble or threat. Quietly dignified.

NEW: Extraordinary scenes in Amsterdam this afternoon (Sunday, Oct 5).

An estimated 250,000 bring the city to a standstill; people all wearing red to show solidarity with Palestine 🇵🇸

'You should have been more clear when you posted "Stephen made me a wonderful risotto for dinner tonight."
How was I supposed to know that you didn't mean Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff. No, I won't apologize for replying "Stephen deserves to be in prison."'

The world is going to hell. Now more than ever is the time to bake. Yes you may lose power but you may not and the baking and the eating of said bakes will be therapeutic.

Dublin airport is not fit for purpose. Some flight delays today (majority of flights going out) but departure lounges are rammed. People sitting on floors, perched on plant pots, window sills, anywhere they can find. Making for a grim travel experience.

All good. Except for small matter of my flight to Amsterdam being cancelled with 12hours notice yesterday which has thrown my weekend plans into disarray. Hope all good with you.

Looks fine to me on DuckDuckGo

Oh that is sad news. May he rest in peace.

Supposed to be flying to Amsterdam this morning. Got a text last night from Aer Lingus saying flight cancelled due to #StormAmy. Video shows tree in our garden (8km from the airport) this morning. I’m no pilot but pretty sure we could have flown in these conditions.

Wishing him a speedy recovery. Take care x

Sounds so stressful Donna. How is Ste?

Did he say anything similar when anti migrant protestors were blocking traffic repeatedly recently? Traffic was a nightmare today - as bad as I’ve ever known it - but if some groups are allowed to protest then all groups are entitled.

Poem by Edna St Vincent Millay
Surprisingly modern - E St VM died in 1950
Screenshot of a poem by Edna St Vincent Millay

What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why,
I have forgotten, and what arms have lain Under my head till morning; but the rain Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh Upon the glass and listen for reply, And in my heart there stirs a quiet pain For unremembered lads that not again Will turn to me at midnight with a cry.
Thus in the winter stands the lonely tree, Nor knows what birds have vanished one by
one,
Yet knows its boughs more silent than before:
I cannot say what loves have come and gone, I only know that summer sang in me A little while, that in me sings no more.

Splint by Gabriel Rosenstock
Screenshot of a poem by Gabriel Rosenstock

It was like a miniature of some sculpture by Calder
Your cactus in the kitchen.
It had signs of your nursing On one broken limb -
A splint!
I never saw such kindness
(Nor suppose I ever will)
To a prickly thing.
Your love poured out in that room And everything burst into bloom.
