Out of eggs for my usual Sunday omelette, so instead I have this small, subtle breakfast.

Feeling kinda fancy today - the supermarket was completely out of its own-brand bread, so a yellow stickered baguette it was. Can I call French bread and Italian soup fusion cuisine?

Dear Theatre BlueSky, There's a new prize asking for plays based on anything in Plutarch, offering $2,500 in return for rights as shown. Strikes me as massively undercutting the @writersguildgb.bsky.social rate card (writersguild.org.uk/rates-and-ri...) for new plays - am I wrong?

*to a tune by David Gray* This week's soup is full of veg
Heaven knows, it's high time...

Safe to say, my muffins did not rise. I'm guessing that the baking powder I used being Best Before 2023 didn't help..

This is the joy of curating your own feed. People who like the sort of things you like share them. Sometimes simultaneously.

I hoard Christmas baked goods so they can cheer me up in the bleakness of January.

Today's woolly jumper had a moth hole RIGHT in the middle of the chest and my darn was so visible that I felt the need to embroider over it. Do I add more (maybe around the neck) so it looks more deliberate, or leave it as is?

That BlueSky account isn't the same person - her pinned post says so:

Totally reasonable request from a friend's kid's school today. As she said "Oh, I'll just grab that ruff I keep in the back of the cupboard".
Being a pedant, I think if all the children are going to dress up as a Tudor, they're going to need a massive trenchcoat/swanning about robe.

This is the snow here.

Vaguely healthy Monday night dinner, as I had sprouts to use up and the black bean sauce was BB January.

The star on top of my Christmas "tree"/bespoke, reusable twig hanger has hurled itself to the floor, just in case I didn't know it was Twelfth Night.
Paper chains in the recycling, decorations in a bag for next year (they're made of recycling anyway) and fairylights piled in a vase for January.

Not sure whose we've stolen.

I have roasted various things. (Don't worry, this is pre-gravy.)

The Co-op sold me all this last night for £3.09. So I've started the year with trifle for breakfast; new year, same me.

@regretteruane.bsky.social Thought you might like to know Angela Barnes (who's a great comic) read and enjoyed your book - from her Insta post today:

Happy 2026! May the worst of your future be the best of your past and all that - here's to a much better year.

Missed sunset proper, but did get some fabulous pink plane trails.

The last batch of soup for 2025! Can confirm it's a good one; I got the consistency right this time (but forgot the spinach), so it's nice and thick.

My standard risotto is just rice, stock, onions, garlic and mushrooms (with wine whenever possible). But - courtesy of yellow stickers, leftovers and Christmas presents, this one also has shitaki mushrooms, butter and Parmesan - not sad about anything that makes dinner creamier and cheesier.
