Hi! 🤍
I'm Kathaja and I love writing sci-fi & romance—yes, that combination—while sharing my alien world through my art. My work is traditional and digital, quite often a blend of both.

Want to know more about my world and novel?
Read on in the replies! ↓
Collage of 4 artworks tinted in muted, dark colors.

Top left: Fineliner art of an alien character, Zhaikes Nazkarath (OC), buffing out his chest and looking over his shoulder, with an angry expression.

Top right: Digital art of a cat-like alien character, an Arka (species), with long flowy hair and white eyes without pupils.

Bottom left: Pencil art of a snarling creature, the Ozyres, showing a maw full of pointy teeth and a long tongue.

Bottom right: Digital art of a reptilian alien character, a Vortecc (species), with an elongated face and bendy tendrils on their head.

The Hanged Man.✨

I added the tarot layout and I really like it!

#Repostober
#Art #Ihk #DnD #OCSky #ArtSky #BskyArt
Digital drawing of a humanoid starling bird person hanging upside down by their foot. Resembling the tarot card "The Hanged Man". The sky is blue with white clouds behind them and below is a golden grain field with starlings flying in a swarm above it. The rope the person is hanging by is also made of wheat and appears to be attached to the golden bracelet they're wearing on that foot. Their left wing is folded and looks tidy. Their right wing is looking very rough. It's broken and hanging down into the grain. The feathers are visibly damaged. They are looking towards the floor on the side of their broken wing. There's a thin golden border framing the drawing like a tarot card. At the Top is a circle saying "XII" and at the bottom it says "The Hanged Man"

A bear and some other creatures. Comparative scales and the numbers put for measurement aren't quite done yet (I just find it easier to put it on the page so I can correct it later)
Digital illustration of an alien creature posed as a bear, but morphologically more similar to a starfish.
Textbox underneath the illustration reads: "While very alien to the prospectors the curiosity and playfulness of these creatures was more like small bears. They can be found all over garden, but this variation is found in the outer layers and can be seen gnawing on tree roots and rocks." A scale comparison of alien creatures. From top left: a Forest Squid with a large number of tentacles with tips of sharp hooks. A juvenile version of Kale Whale, a quadruped with a body not unlike a lettuce leaf. A bearlike starfish currently named just Some Bear. An adult form of the Kale Whale.

Now I have the text version! A little discombobulated but it gives the quick blurb!

Surprise custom #2, this one is for @erradox.bsky.social 🔥🪨

Character belongs to Erradox

A monster design inspired by stone and fire-like colours, also a good hint of snake. Tail is spiked and curls back, has large claws and four eyes. Long feather-like spikes sway out of fur.

To their defense: Zhaikes and Rhaski usually have good reasons.

And Rika sometimes has good reasons too xD
kathaja.com
Zhaikes doesn't lie, he skillfully avoids the truth :') His brother Rhaski is the same, but he tells half-truths more happily and freely.. Lara hates lying, but sometimes she sugarcoats to protect someone's feelings. Rika lies as she sees fit and is strikingly good at it too.

What's your OC's opinion on lying? Would they lie if necessary or are they brutally honest all the time?

If it helps you can look at my website (link in bio) and see what works, as it's made with Squarespace. When I'm home I can let you know what didn't work out of the box (= customized in the UI, aka no code magic).

Anyway, best of luck for finding your tool 🤍
kathaja.com
Depends! :'D Squarespace definitely has more options from what I see. The background color can be easily adjusted at least. But I had some specific requirements and one big downside for me was the photo preview in the gallery which has a full screen mode, but no further zoom, so I bought a plugin 💀

Yeah, this is so relatable. I only know some basics and have similar issues with squarespace.. *flips table*

Creating a species page also means having all their art neatly collected in one place. :}

I hope I'll be done soon with all the descriptions..

The skill difference is amazing to look at! And it's admirable that you have been drawing your OC for so long (I didn't for several years because I was afraid to get him wrong :''))

QRP with your art before covid vs now

Well, the very first Drake I drew was in 2006, so technically he hasn't changed much, only a ton of tweaking over the years.

Left: shows an early drawing of Zhaikes, where I struggled to "correctly" draw his facial shapes (2018)

Right: also Zhaikes, but much closer to what I see in my mind (2025)
Pencil sketch of my OC Zhaikes. It shows an alien man with antennae and reptilian features. While the sketch itself isn't necessarily bad or wrong, it was a mismatch between my mental picture of Zhaikes and what I was able to draw at that time. E.g., his chin tips are too short, the Antennae too thick, the horns did not align well with his head. Digital art of my OC Zhaikes with a similar grumpy expression as in the previous work, but his facial features here align much better with my mental image. His chin tips are longer, the antennae thinner, the horns more shapely. All in all his facial planes are better defined too.

Here are some of my current favourites. It's world building and OC art :}

Pencil art of a creature's head in side-view, the Ozyres. The creature is snarling, showing off its crooked teeth and a long tongue. Its eye is purely white with a soft glow. It has two ears which are set back, underlining the aggressive pose. Art by Kathaja Krim. Illustration of a Nan-Te'gah, an alien species, that shows the head in side view. The alien has four larger and two smaller appendages on their head, three on each side. Text on page: Head appendages are made of cartilage and muscle. Elongated tympanic membranes run along each of the four larger appendages and serve as sensory organs. Upper appendages: Specialized for detecting airborne vibrations and pressure changes. Lower appendages: Specialized for detecting underwater vibrations and movements. The appendages are also used to convey emotions by moving them into different positions. Active movement affects the membranes. While most self-generated disturbances can be ignored, the sensitivity of the membranes is dampened by active movement. Thus, increased focus or fear makes them eerily still. Nictitating membrane (third eyelid) can be drawn across the eye for protection, particularly when underwater. Outer teeth are part of the exoskeleton that covers the face. Lips close behind the outer teeth. The actual teeth are located inside the mouth, with pointed incisors and flatter molars. Canines are not prominent and look like incisors. Digital art of an alien character, Zhaikes (species: Zhor Khat), showing him three times on a reference page from various angels and a close-up of his right eye. He looks grumpy in each of them. Most noticeable is the artwork in the middle where the top-down angle allows a glimpse on his back and the row of scales running along his spine. It also shows two of his four extra limbs that are positioned between his shoulder blades. He glances over his shoulder giving us the side-eye. Descriptive text on the page: Zhaikes Nazkarath, anatomy details. Four pairs of curved horns are set close to his head, with the tips jutting out at the back. Antennae, called Raks'van, are sensory organs that can detect even the slightest tremors. Their position reflects emotions. His right eye is blind and paler than the left. A technical enhancement can temporarily compensate for the disability, producing small dots of light when active. Three knobs on his face act as anchors for his mask and can?t be removed. His left upper arm and shoulder, as well as the right side of his face, are scarred. Scales protect the sensitive skin and nerve endings beneath, and they can be slightly lifted. Art by Kathaja Krim. Digital art of my OCs Zhaikes and Lara, in color! Zhaikes has greenish tones, from skin to bio-armor. Lara has light skin with red hair and an olive green top. Her eyes are green too. They stand next to each other, while Zhaikes has one of his wing-lile limbs bent over Lara. He looks grumpy and says "What are you looking at...?". Lara seems friendly saying "Hi". Art by Kathaja Krim.
