How has biomechanics evolved?

A new perspective in the Journal of Applied Biomechanics shows how gait & posture mechanics, once outside the journal's scope, are now central to the field. Read for free here: doi.org/10.1123/jab....

#TBT to 1987 when Dr. Dorris I. Miller analyzed GRFs in the running forward somersault. Peak force hit 13.6x BW! Her work revealed how gymnasts absorb impact + control motion—paving the way for future performance analysis.

What happens next is unclear, the reviews have all been submitted and the discussion order was set. I hope for all that we get to have a meeting in the near future to discuss and maybe debate the merits of each proposal. 3/3

I'm incredibly sad for everyone. The investigators who spent untold hours developing the proposals. The reviewers who donated their time to review the scientific merit and rigor of the proposed science and who'd canceled classes, surgeries etc. to be at the meeting that was to be today. 2/n

This will start to filter through the community today but the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Science Study section has been postponed to an unknown future date. The approvals at the highest levels that needed to happen for a federal review meeting to be held didn’t get done. 1/n

The NIH Is literally prohibited by law from commenting on the new NIH restrictions. The NIH can't fight this fight for you. Scientists who want to help people, this has to be your fight.

Excited to attend my first RockyMtnASB as a speaker.
I’m looking forward to all the great biomechanics but I’m also excited because I love winter in the mountains.
