My friend, who’s 26, recently started working after graduation. The company held a training session for new employees, which included a written test. Afterwards, they sent out a list of everyone’s scores—ranked from highest to lowest—to all staff, to ‘motivate’ everyone to work harder. 🤯🫣🫠 #JobSky

Freddy’s class is THE BEST!!!
I had the pleasure of speaking to a visiting group from the Shanghai Jiaotong University MBA program. I attempted to introduce them to U.S. influencer marketing in two hours. But of course, I spoke too much, so I wound up doing 2:20. That said, I had a terrific time.

New Job Moment 💌
This week, I walked into my workspace and found a little gift and a handwritten card — with my Chinese name on it, which I’ve read over and over — from my manager who had just come back from D.C. 🥹💖 #HigherEd

Back to influencer life update — Good news: Posted a video on Rednote sharing my work experience in China. Got 250k views and 1,000+ comments sharing similar experiences and feelings. Bad news: Received a WeChat DM from my former HR manager today saying ‘Watch your mouth.’ 🙃 #socialmedia #influencer

Shout-out to boys: Books are sexy and nerds are HOT.
Stat that wows me: "Women make up 80% of fiction sales." I shouldn't be surprised having attended the L.A. Times Festival of #Books and seen who was buying. I can also tell which students are book lovers just by reading their work.

OMG, I thought I brought levity to #HigherEd. Here, Prof. Rough not only raises the bar, he sets it aflame and installs a croc-infested moat around it. This shall not be topped.

A silly, uninformative video I made about my views on GenAI 'vibe coding'. It started off as a bad idea and got progressively ridiculous but I felt obliged to finish it 😅

A sudden thought: When I first visited Chinatown in LA, it felt like time had stopped — everything seemed frozen in the moment people immigrated. But recently, I came across new Chinese trends I’d never seen before. And then I wondered… what if one day, future students see me and feel the same? 😱

Safe and predictable storyline, but the visuals and effects were exciting. Made me want to watch F1 in person. Not very creative, but worth the ticket price and my Sunday afternoon. The portrayal of the moment when the ultimate dream is realized — though cliché — was still moving. #moviesky

Reading this book was such a painful experience. I could hardly breathe through my tears while reading the second half. I see parts of myself reflected in so many characters in this book. It touches on many complex issues — everything feels too real, too heavy and too desperate . #booksky

The storyline of Moana 2 felt really cliché. It left me wondering how a company as big as Disney can still struggle to tell a good story — or is that just how it usually goes? #moviesky #movie

A beautiful and moving song. But I don’t fully relate to the emotion in the lyrics — a stranger at home, and “different” from people here. It sings of loneliness, but I feel freedom and peace deep in my soul. #musicsky

Still remember that sunny afternoon back in undergrad, almost 8 or 9 years ago. I was sitting under the wisteria-covered walkway on campus — and I finally, finally finished reading One Hundred Years of Solitude. Now I’m starting the Netflix adaptation. #Booksky

In her writing, I sense the intergenerational transmission of suicidal impulses; she may partially enact suicide through her mother tongue, yet her children have nowhere to escape.

I don’t want to read her writings anymore.

For the first time, I saw someone using English with such pain and precision just as I use Chinese. Yet she went further, more resolutely. She chose linguistic suicide in Chinese, turning instead to English. Word by word, she constructed a spiritual refuge, a final defense against past memories.
