I love the part of history where we get to see that people are just people, and kids are definitely kids.

Here's the thing. I am a lucky person and pay a fair bit in taxes. I can think of no better use for my tax dollars than feeding children, because I think all people are equally deserving of basic humanity.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

In a stroke of good luck, someone told me about this before I had kids. I thought it would be useful for them to have an EU passport so they could work or live there without worrying about visas. 1995 me didn't envision our current nightmare where their Irish citizenship helps me sleep at night.

Reading and processing information is clearly not our strong suit.

Yes, you need to get citizenship through your Irish grandparent before you have kids. That way they’re born to an Irish citizen and eligible for citizenship themselves.

I liked it better when my knowledge of English history was useful in explaining period tv shows and movies and not how our demented president operates.

Thanks for the reminder to stock up on my favorite brand of vanilla. Thanksgiving/Christmas baking is around the corner.

I would also like to be furious about yoga working. Are you using an app, video, a yoga guru on TikTok? What do you recommend?

This is why the Cubs need to win the World Series again. If winning in 2016 caused everything to go off the rails, a second could reset it. Winning this year will be like in the movies when one bonk on the head causes amnesia and a second bonk cures it.

You know what was weird last week? I didn’t see anyone fired for quoting words actually spoken by Jane Goodall.

Let's be gentle - she may have suffered a head injury. It's the most reasonable explanation for how anyone can envision a scenario in which Congress does its job and opposes executive overreach. Or even acknowledges that the executive can overreach.
Once a higher ed coalition has reached an agreement with the White House, it could then drive a pivot away from executive overreach by activating Congress to do its job.

Take a Californian, or Nevadan, apple picking in October and you've basically become a wizard in their eyes.

One of my favorite things about Dublin is all the bookstores, and this one is a gem. Any arson attack is terrible, but on a bookstore? That’s an attack on knowledge, freedom, and information.

Remember this? A misunderstanding and next thing you know, @davidmccullough.bsky.social is the toast of Irish Bluesky. Before long, he's reposting Irish artists and learning Irish. All that could have happened for that other guy, but no, he had to make an ass out of himself.
Screenshot of @davidmccullough.bsky.social posts from when he was confused with an Irish journalist of the same name.

Despite the fact that this is obviously not about a US presidential election, you didn't explicitly say it's not about the US. How are Canadians to know that other countries have presidents? Or elections? FF, Bertie - nothing but mumbo jumbo. #dobetter

He might be Canadian, but he speaks fluent "everything in the world must be about me" American English.
kathleenlenihan.bsky.social
It seems that causing confusion for you is easily accomplished.
kathleenlenihan.bsky.social
Ah yes, the American idea that the only spotlight shines on the US.

I know, but the alternative for me is turning my attention to what is happening with ICE in Chicago, and I can't bear to do that quite yet.

Since I immediately understood it was not about Newsom, what was unclear about it?
kathleenlenihan.bsky.social
Good to see you've reassessed the whole 99% thing.

And the part about it being "poorly written" because he didn't understand it. *chef kiss* perfection
