"Some have chosen to deride the increasingly evident signs of climate change, to ridicule those who speak of global warming, and even to blame the poor for the very thing that affects them the most."

Our new #adaptation report, Resilient Nature is out today! 2024 and 2025 have been chaotic; but we are taking action, restoring habitats and protecting species across the UK. And the public are noticing too; 48% are now adapting, 60% reducing emissions.

🦫 Beavers as ecosystem engineers

A 54-year study shows that beavers reshape boreal landscapes, boosting habitat quality and connectivity nearly tenfold. Their ponds and floods support lasting biodiversity gains.

Swallows are incredible creatures. It's been a joy to watch the babies emerging this summer. The changing day length and reduced food supplies will trigger migration soon, though some individuals have been seen overwintering in the UK in recent years with warmer winters 🧪🐦☀️🪳🐝

🍂 Have you noticed leaves already starting to fall or berries ripening early?

As we come to the end of one of the UK's warmest summers on record, the country is experiencing what experts call a ‘false autumn’.

Find out about this phenomenon and why it's been happening 👇

What to do? For those who thought wildfire wasn't a significant priority, think again. We're looking to learn lessons from other parts of the world for our land management. But boy does policy need to catch up fast and get some proper resilience plans in place.

The wildfires in southern Europe are off the scale, burning an area the size of Cyprus. This affects all of us; the CO2 from those fires is now in the air, and 1 million hectares of vegetation that was storing carbon has been decimated.

Tony Bartelme’s goal in "Rising Waters" is to make the invisible snakes of climate change visible and “wake up … our noggins” before we get bitten.

A bit of joy on Friday, among the many felled ash trees across England is this one outside my house. But it's still alive! And producing new healthy shoots.

This week I spoke to BBC news about how wildlife is reacting to the hot, dry summer.

The big worry for me is that this is just a point we are passing through on the way to much more extreme climate change.

Ratty, the charming water vole from Wind in the Willows, has been in deep trouble for decades.

But now, thanks to UK wildlife trusts, this riverside resident is making a hopeful comeback.

Kate Moore reports
Endangered – the remarkable water vole is making a comeback
Predation, pollution, climate change and habitat loss made Kenneth Grahame's Ratty one of the UK's most endangered species. But wildlife trusts are on the case

All our reserves are (I hope) covered in these at the moment. Please help to stop wildfires; no fire or litter anywhere outside including BBQs, pick up litter esp glass. Don't smoke.

If you see any fire/smoke no matter how small, call emergency services immediately.

The US National Climate Assessment has been deleted. One of the things it spells out in detail is how climate change is driving increased wildfire risk.

Wildfires destroy nature, emit vast quantities of carbon, and are not well accounted for in models. Increasing resilience is a priority for us.
