I once did temp work at an office in a nunnery that ran Catholic hospitals. All the calls for the execs came from their nun counterparts. All were Sister Somebody and a lot were Sister Mary Somebody. Man, that was hard to write the correct name on the message. Probably easier now with voicemail.
The Name of the Rose IS great, but Eco (qdep) did NOT get the memo about not giving multiple characters names that start with the same syllable, letter, or phoneme. #monks

See why do we have to have like bigots and Nazis and hating other people for stupid ass reasons when I just looked at my planet from the surface of another planet and I don't even have shoes on. I'm in Soft House Clothes and slippers looking at my planet on my phone.

What.
Open up this picture fully.

Then look at the surface of Mars.

Then look up to the top right.

Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky.

Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos.

That's Earth.

Quote this with a book you read way too young that explains why you are the way you are.

Stranger in a Strange Land

My father had a heart attack when I was 12. He’d mostly be resting in his room during his recovery. He left the book lying around and I’d read it while he was asleep.

I'll start: John Gardner's Grendel.

So conservative curriculum includes The Odyssey. My “woke” state university had us read The Iliad.
New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

So let me explain some pretty massive errors of omission: 🧵

My favorite Christmas movie is Moonstruck, but we ended up watching Ghosts of Girlfriends Past instead.

Alt: Nicholas Cage in a tuxedo and bow tie looks to his left, Cher looks all around. They are standing in front of the Met fountain in December. In the movie scene just before this there are Christmas trees and other holiday trappings.

In an exit interview, former boss said I was a bad communicator. I protested I had always been praised for communications. She came back with “You only know one way to communicate and it’s the wrong way.”
What's an insult you'll never forget?
