It’s hard not to wonder why it is the library shouldering the burden of not only providing a social safety net in the city but that that same library needs to then shoulder the burden of such tremendous cuts.”

How to be an informed, pro-library, anti-book ban voter in upcoming fall elections (if you have them) and well into the future.

Don't just celebrate banned books. Don't just read banned books. VOTE to support the democratic institutions creating access to them.

Banned Books Week is coming up. As Kelly notes here, it’s not just books from 20-30 years ago; it’s not just happening in red/conservative states. It’s happening across America and across the globe, today, now. We must act and fight to protect our First Amendment rights and our freedoms.
I made some free printable bookmarks for you to use in any Banned Books Week displays/programs/etc you may have. They're meant to give folks *action items* to take with them beyond that single week.

I am sick of Texas leadership telling us all the time how little they care for us - and still getting elected! VOTE THEM OUT!
In less than a week, Gov. Greg Abbott and GOP lawmakers will make it even harder in Texas to prevent school shootings, suicides, and murders by domestic abusers.
Texas forbids law that keeps guns away from unhinged people
Despite recent massacres in the state, GOP leaders ban a proven tool to help stop them.

The people who say we talk too much about slavery are the same ones who insist that we need public monuments and statues of men who are famous solely for waging a war of treason in defense of slavery.

Statues that were created explicitly to deny any sense of "hope and progress" after the Civil War.
White House official Lindsey Halligan: "While slavery is obviously a horrible aspect of our nation's history, you can't really talk about slavery honestly unless you also talk about hope and progress ... we need to stop focusing so much on the lack of progress."

About time! America is worth fighting for 🇺🇸
"Newsom’s threat to retaliate in kind is not a divisive attack on good governance. It is, instead, the only hope for democracy. Bipartisanship right now is appeasement. Democrats cannot and should not hide behind neutrality and fairness as MAGA incinerates the remaining tatters of our republic."
