Found this on the anniversary of the 19th Amendment's Ratification. Coincidence? In any case, sharing to highlight a resource I was begging for at the start of my DPhil: an interactive women's suffrage map! GREAT way to visualize the growth of women's suffrage! depts.washington.edu/moves/WomanS...

pleasantly surprised with how Chief of War has shown the Pacific World so far. Really expected them to gloss over Ka'iana's time with the trading ship — instead we're getting treated to a full look at just how wide and interconnected it was! Jumping from Alaska to the Philippines in one episode.

rinse and repeat with the other forts; Fort RE Lee —> Ft Gregg-Adams —> Ft (Fitz) Lee, medal of honor recipient for service in the Spanish-American War

They did — Admin. has claimed a loophole which means that the bases still won't be named for the Confederates...but other soldiers who share the same names as them. My quote was referring to Ft AP Hill specifically — no longer for Ambrose Powell Hill but 3 union soldiers named Anderson, Pine, & Hill
katiefapp.bsky.social
Call me crazy, but I really can't imagine that Union soldiers would love the idea of their names being used as a political football to honor a Confederate at the expense of Union surgeon!!!!

The US Army said it will restore the names of seven Army bases that previously honored Confederate leaders.

With record-breaking speed for my podcast, I got to cover Sinners on Flashback! Was so lucky to meet Tammy in the wake of this fantastic movie and have this conversation with her about the power of music in telling and shaping our histories.
flashbackhistory.bsky.social
Watch out who you invite inside...our episode on SINNERS is out now! Dr Tammy Kernodle joins to unpack all the history — but especially the music! — behind the latest historical blockbuster to take cinemas by storm 🎵🧛‍♂️ Available wherever fine podcasts are found! open.spotify.com/episode/7pJ6...
Still from the 2025 movie, Sinners. Two identical men, dressed in suits, look beyond the camera. The one on the left wears a brown fedora hat with a red tie; on the right, a blue newsboy cap, blue tie, and holds a cigarette. Behind them is the brown-and-blue siding of an old building and front windshield of a red car, and in the horizon a green treeline.

Need some lightly-themed Memorial Day listening? Flashback's episode on the Patriot is out now! A lot of fun with this one, and was joined by the fantastic Krysten Blackstone — a historian of soldiers' lived experiences and morale in the Revolution!

Our episode on THE PATRIOT is out now! Dr Krysten Blackstone joins as we dive deep into this infamous Revolutionary War movie (and, briefly, Liberty's Kids) 🇺🇸 Available now wherever you find your podcasts! open.spotify.com/episode/5UsV...
Three men in eighteenth century soldiers' uniforms are pictured; the man in the center and right appear to be talking to one another. They are wearing dark tricorn hats, overcoats of different shades of blue, and holding muskets.

Such a fun ep! If you enjoyed Fraser in any of his other fish-out-of-water premises, definitely check this one out for a hefty dose of 60s and 90s nostalgia. And Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek as a delightful married couple and accidental cult leaders!

Gee Wilikers! This week we're taking it back to BLAST FROM THE PAST, a 1999 sci-fi rom-com starring Brendan Fraser as a man raised in a nuclear bunker. Historian of gender and the Cold War Tom Bishop joins to discuss this delightfully zany flick of a man out of time — out now! tinyurl.com/yckfz47z
A man in a black suit holds a woman in a black top and skirt, with heels. They stand in the middle of a street and are encircled by three hoops, reminiscent of nuclear diagrams of an atom's path. The sky behind them, at sunset, bursts forth in a similar "nuclear" fashion.

Abolitionist and woman suffragist Lucy Stone came through Louisville in 1853 as part of a lecture tour of MO, IN and WV. In her Bloomer costume, Stone gave three speeches, with thousands packing the halls each night. Orators in the suffrage movement bragged of a good event as "a Kentucky welcome."

Still of Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby in the 2013 movie adaptation of the 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. A blonde man with a stylish haircut, wearing a tuxedo, raises a champagne class to the viewer. Fireworks go off in the background.
