Yesterday, a federal court allowed the Trump administration's "defund" of Planned Parenthood to go into effect immediately. That means right now, patients are not able to use Medicaid to pay for care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
Promotional image with text stating "OUR DOORS ARE OPEN" in bold letters, followed by "Planned Parenthood is here for you, no matter what." The Planned Parenthood logo is visible. The background is a gradient from light blue to white. A promotional image highlighting services provided by Planned Parenthood in Connecticut and Rhode Island, stating they had over 115,000 visits last year for services including STI testing, breast exams, HPV vaccines, and more, with a blue gradient background. Promotional graphic for Planned Parenthood stating "Care will continue—no matter what." Includes contact information with a phone number and website URL. Background is a soft blue gradient.

The Court relies on manufactured scientific uncertainty to justify allowing state governments to flatly prohibit health care that is widely supported by mainstream consensus. The patient, their parents, and their doctors all agree to follow mainstream medical guidelines, but the state won’t let them

Sotomayor gets it right in dissent. Geduldig is constitutional trash and should not be good law in 2025. 😠

My guest essay for @nytimes.com about Adriana Smith. This situation is a tragedy from top to bottom, and there is so much complexity that can't be teased out in so few words. May she and the family left behind find peace soon.

The threat to reproductive health care is existential. PPSNE is a social safety net health care provider in our state and I hope our legislators and government leaders are prepared to step up and fulfill their duty to protect public health by safeguarding PP.

Once again - the excitement we've felt in lower courts preventing parts of the Trump agenda to go forward needs to be tempered because the Supreme Court is the apex court.

And this is the Supreme Court reminding us who it is.

The stay of the district court's injunction was issued with no reasoning and over the objections of Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson.

I was thinking how they would "opt out" or "provide notice" to parents -- like here's the calendar...WARNING, week 1 - Bobby's mom is a single working parent who lives with her boyfriend; week 2 - Michaela has two dads; week 3 - Suzie has a mom and dad and a transgender sister...etc. etc.

Agreed @carolinemalacorbin.bsky.social As the argument went on it seems clear that most of them would say that if the kids were "just talking to each other" it would be one outcome, but if it was during facilitated "circle time" it would be another.

‼️This just in: Conservative Justices care about affordability of education (and rights) unlike their stance on:
➡️ abortion (when it was a right)
➡️ civil legal counsel
➡️ voting
etc. etc. etc.

SCOTUS in June: if a teacher reads the majority opinion in Obergefell to their class religious families have a right to opt out of the lesson.

The conservative justices inclination to lump anything to do with gender and marriage with sex ed - even picture books for 4-year-olds is jarring.

The regressive view of all queer people as sexual deviants is oozing from these arguments.
