Kind of want to spend my life making art, but also taking care of the people I love, and also saving the world, and also playing D&D and listening to metal, and also petting dogs and cats, and also sleeping. That last one’s the hardest, I think.

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

I appreciate all the people recommending the Shock Doctrine. I've been thinking about what makes Trump's use of these tactics a little different.

In recent decades, shock tactics were used mainly to rapidly impose neoliberal economic policies. But what Trump is doing goes way beyond that.

Chaos and confusion. Somebody read @naomiaklein.bsky.social The Shock Doctrine as a manual, it seems. Time for people to read it again for countermeasures also.

Yes. And aside from being unethical, throwing vulnerable communities under the bus has never bought anyone safety, at least not for long.

Authoritarian regimes are rarely satisfied with suppressing or eradicating just one target. Teaching them by your inaction that they can get away with… (1/2)
"We have to allow this [org/shelter/hospital/school] to erase the trans community and comply to save everyone else"

Absolutely not.

I will not allow my community to be jettisoned to save yourself. Yes, if you don't, other groups may suffer, and you might too.

But we are all in this together.

I don’t even have any words for how horrifically cruel and awful this is…
1. Getting word that we have another anti-trans EO tonight, this time targeting teachers.

It directs the federal government to work with state AGs to put teachers who use trans kids pronouns in jail through "sexual exploitation" laws or "practicing medicine without a license."

The comments on this post are an amazing wonderland of the fantastic and disturbing. Trapdoor weasels! Screaming deer! Puffer cows!
We're having a discussion about which interesting animal behaviour would be terrifying on a different species. The rules are

a) it can't be an immediate danger to you
b) it has to be so scary you would stop filming and leave.

Feel free to play along. The current winner is vulture murmuration.

This looks interesting! I’d been hoping a non-evil alternative to Facebook might emerge (Bluesky being more like a non-evil alternative to Twitter, which is not really the same thing). I may have to check Pillowfort out…

Every act of courage matters now.

Don't leave it to someone else - an authority, someone with power. You need to be brave.

We always spoke of everyday kindness. What we need now is everyday courage.

Let’s talk about resistance after a conqueror takes power. Specifically let’s talk about this bendy yellow building, and what it shows us about the moment the Florentine Republic finally fell to its kleptocratic/proto-capitalist banking-fortune Medici conquerors 1/?

Trump’s anti-trans Executive Order is bad BUT it technically defines everyone as female. It states:

“'Female' means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell."

Since all fetuses "at conception" are female, Trump just defined EVERYONE as female.

Hello! This is the cross stitch I have been working on. I pretty much work on it only when there is a televised basketball game on for me locally. I’m more of a reader than an artist, but I’ve done some guided acrylic painting too. Refreshing German and extending my Spanish language base-Duolingo.

I think, though, that what I miss most from FB is that there, the endless stream of “The world is burning and we’re all gonna die!” was broken up by interesting art, cross-stitch, cute animals, and other stuff from people’s daily lives. A reminder that there was more than doom… Here, not so much.

Have tamed my Bluesky feed somewhat by reverting to Livejournal practices, and making two lists, Read Daily and Read Occasionally.

The latter is for various authors and others who post like 100x/day. The former is for everyone else.

We shall see if this helps…

It seems dreadfully backwards that a big part of being an adult is waking up at your most comfortable, warm, cozy, pain free (hopefully) and then willfully force yourself to get up; thereby triggering again a sequence of events to gradually become less comfortable as the day goes on.
