So proud of our pollies’ gracious winning/losing speeches this Saturday night -esp Albo shutting down the heckling of the opposition. But most of all so happy to see a disabled single mum winning our opposition leader’s seat. Poetic justice + hard work. Congratulations @alifrance.bsky.social #auspol

Strongly endorsed.

I don't care what Khalil said. What matters most here is the state punished him, without charge or trial, for speech. They disappeared him like in the sort of authoritarian country America used to criticize. Anyone adjudicating the content of his speech is missing the point.
The detention of Mahmoud Khalil puts all Americans fundamental rights at risk. And if you can’t see that because you oppose his politics, well that’s exactly the reaction Trump and his cronies are counting on. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Mahmoud Khalil’s Detention Is a Trial Run
The pro-Palestine student was arrested without due process for exercising his right to free speech. He will not be the last.

This seems about right.
A race see which happens first: hurting so many people including their own voters that there’s a massive public backlash or dismantling democratic institutions to the point they can keep power despite public discontent.

“During periods of nationalist hysteria, however, overreach is common.”
"If someone legally in the United States can be grabbed from his home for engaging in constitutionally protected political activity, we are in a drastically different country from the one we inhabited before," writes our columnist Michelle Goldberg.

Mahmoud Khalil’s detention is a frightening sign of an authoritarian slide.

I mean, why would NASA need a chief scientist anyway? Hmmm
NASA is eliminating its chief scientist and other roles as part of efforts by the Trump administration to pare back staff at the agency’s Washington headquarters.

About 19 positions will be cut, including those in offices focused on technology policy and diversity, equity and inclusion.

This is an interesting story of one woman’s changing and challenging relationship with food - and, y’know, cannibalism of course.
