here, as in life, i mostly just read stuff. he/him
in a hyperpartisan 2-party system, there's just almost never sufficient political motivation for a Member to impeach their party's President. politically, it's *all* downside for them. thus impeachment is inevitably unipartisan, which Americans (& political media especially) reflexively distrust.

to be fair, that's because it *is* old news to everyone involved in covering national politics

have you ever wondered what the Napoleonic Wars would have been like if talking dragons had been involved?

if so: Temeraire.

I dunno man, I think I’m ok with people thinking “a notorious pedophile rapist told another notorious pedophile rapist that the sitting US President is a pedophile rapist” is a big deal.

I mean, he also likes golf a lot.

It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy anything, it’s that his enjoyment isn’t connected to any sort of values. Musical theater isn’t his gateway to the sublime, and there’s no aesthetic or even hedonistic principle behind it. It’s just a kind of music he happens to like.

MLB has that now, it's called PitchCom. catchers press buttons on a little pad, and an earpiece tells the pitcher what the call is.

catchers usually threw multiple signs to hide which was real, but you can only get so complicated before you risk the catcher & pitcher getting out of sync.

also, it's *much* easier to crack even complicated signs if you can quickly compare video of multiple sets instead of trying to remember them

my dad died a couple years ago, and I just had my first kid earlier this year. there is quite literally nothing in the world I want more than to see them meet, or to talk to him just one more time.

the idea of putting an AI imitation of him on my phone makes me just incandescently disgusted.

we had a kid earlier this year & it was actually really clarifying when we got conflicting advice from medical folks on stuff like breastfeeding, for precisely this reason. doesn't mean we threw out everything they said, it just gave us better perspective.

of course they *can* be incredibly helpful, but I think it's also good for new parents to remember that a pediatrician is a *medical* authority, not a *parenting* one. that doesn't mean their parenting advice is worthless, just that one needn't defer to it the way one defers to their medical advice.

the article says “lost $77B” instead of “spent,” which I suspect means that figure is at least partly either accounting stuff or estimates of “lost earnings” or somesuch, rather than $77B of literal actual money that Facebook sent to other entities
