challenging hit by pitch calls is for cowards

Sure, keep playing your classless little strikeout tune.

I prefer having the call on field matter, but I could live with either

You can not have a more entertaining season than to have game 162 matter

I disagree with losing a challenge in MLB when the call simply “stands”.

Lose the challenge when they can confirm, keep it when they overturn.

But if they aren’t sure, they shouldn’t punish you for challenging, because clearly it deserved a look

What a day to go outside & hit some baseballs

So long as it is a challenge system & not full robot ump, I think it will be an enhancement.

I am actually looking forward to it, but it’s not my preferred system.

Which sounds technical, but basically it just lets humans do all the work unless they really screw up.

The thing I dislike about the new ABS challenge system in MLB is that it will define exactly what a strike/ball is. If your challenge is correct about the exact location of the ball, you win!

I prefer a variable strike zone, where a computer corrects any calls that fall outside the variable range.

three: the hitter would need to be able to correctly challenge the poor calls only, & there is no way of knowing if they have this skill

four: even though some players may have more "wrong" calls than others, it is unknown if this is an ongoing pattern connected to the player specifically

I kind of figured, but why not be pedantic when the opportunity arises :)

As you note, any modern executive will resist the calls in whatever manner they can, but it really comes down to the event that prompts both the call & the exec’s resulting action.

Not something I have studied :)

The “rule” is inaccurately stated. A call-for-resignation does not decrease odds (or, alternatively, a lack of call-for-resignation doesn’t mean higher odds).

Rather, a call-for-resignation itself is not highly predictive of firing/resignation, but it does tend to occur when possibility is greater.

While it's not my preferred process, I still think this is better than the current system of no challenges & it should make games more entertaining.

The ABS challenge system is coming to MLB in 2026

I’m glad I decided many years ago that I was in favour of Climate Change, otherwise this would be pretty depressing news
