Soaking up the storm: Sponge cities and the future of flood-resilient Southeast Asia
The climate crisis is causing increased extreme weather events in Southeast Asia. Could “sponge cities,” a city planning method engineered by Chinese architect, Yu Kongjian, help them weather the storm?

Deep in the woods near Grenner is magical realm nexus point known as the tangle. Good luck getting to and from it, though. There are no clear trails & the space messes with human senses. Your best bet is to be on good terms with an imp who has an eye or 2 in it to teleport you in & out.

The world is beautiful, and that probably goes for yours too. There's surely places even in the most grimdark of settings that could be considered wonders.

Tell us about the natural wonders that exist nearby. ✨

Grenner is located along a river & close to a magical forest. I'm still deciding how the forest impacts the local economy (& ecosystem, including the river). It's a nexus point for many different realms, so I'm thinking the flora & fauna & game are "off" in unsettling ways. (1/2)

Yesterday jumped this ahead for some (oops 😅), so consider this from the view of the place's early history:

Permanent settlements usually get built around a natural resource. What's plentiful here to make it happen? Fertile land, fresh water, minerals?

This is a fun one (they're all fun)! Grenner is a rural city on a peninsula loosely based on Washington State's Olympic Peninsula: temperate rainforests, lots of rain & wind during the fall/winter/spring s(l)og. Grenner is near a magical forest that makes it a popular city for practitioners. (1/2)

Let's get to the "city-builder" stuff. Where is this getting put on your world?

Will or did this impact design choices for features like architecture, available resources, or culture? Or is there a reason that won't matter (like tech or magic: day 13)? 👀

Greener and the surrounding area is the MC's hometown and the story setting. (And because I can't resist, a character in its own right.)

#Septopolis
#Septopolis 2

You've gotta be building this place to do something, so what's it for?

Is it meant to be your MC's hometown, evil lair, or some mandatory beach episode silliness for your or your players' characters? Or, perhaps, is it simply an exercise for yourself?

Hello #Septopolis folks! I'll be focusing on the setting for a percolating fantasy noir(ish) story set in a small city near a dark & foreboding magical forest that I'm hoping to flesh out to be less cliche this month!
Welcome to #Septopolis, I hope you enjoy your stay.

Let's start with some basics. To cover a wide range of settlement types, I've tried to phrase these prompts as generally as possible.

With that: what will you be talking about to either share or build fresh?

The Algorithm(TM) has let me (willingly) fall into the junk journal/junk planner side of TikTok. I'm now eyeing all the really old hardbacks no used bookstore will take with aspirations likely beyond my current crafting abilities. But I have all the materials & some time! So time to get my craft on!

Three cheers for PDZA's Pedro the penguin delivering on the timeline clense front! 🎉🎉🎉
Penguin chick Pedro has officially graduated from fluffy chick to confident swimmer! Now that he’s shed his baby fluff, Pedro is learning to swim like a pro in his own private behind-the-scenes pool. He’s been diving, splashing, and perfecting his paddle one adorable stroke at a time.

Have I done much with these planners? No! Do I still adore them? Yes! Someday I'll break through the barrier keeping me from USING THE DATED PLANNERS instead of going "too pretty to mess up" like the collection of Very Nice Journals I'll use someday. 🙃

(I am using nice spiral notebooks instead.)
Spending some time this evening with my 2025 planners. I love that my Hobonichi planners have a "My 100" section at the back. I'm using my daily Techo to document 100 new(ish) recipes & my Weeks to do a #Horror 100: 100 new-to-me pieces of horror media (books, movies, etc.).

FEED is an amazing trilogy! I
If you like thoroughly researched SF horror, fully realized characters & want a read that gives you a good cathartic ugly cry, FEED may be for you! (Please take that last bit with the context I'm a crier & appreciate media that gives me a safe-to-enjoy cathartic cry.)
Fifteen years ago today, I began telling you all the story of Shaun and Georgia Mason, two young bloggers chasing the story of the century. FEED, the book that introduced them, was the first of my works nominated for the Hugo Award, and changed my life in a very real way.

Timeline clense! Baby is growing up! (Sound up for satisfying lettuce cronching.)
Baby Ume is now 79 pounds and eating more solid foods with her mom, Yuna. She is looking to her mom for guidance and often "mirrors" what Yuna is doing. 💕

Who needs a timeline clense? PDZA has you covered today!
Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.
