this entire fiasco is a great argument for removing market incentives from research. the only machine learning/generative model products anyone cares about are the ones that make you dependent or addicted to them

also, it's not nearly as useful as boosters claim, lots of AI stuff is faked, has a bunch of negative externalities, has a similar grifty culture as NFTs, and destined to collapse when people realise that AGI and mass worker replacement isn't coming and hundreds of billions of capex was wasted on it

damn, american schools really are awful at teaching their young to read, i feel bad for you. do you need like, international aid
February 13, 2026 at 10:34 PM
i live in a country where the thing you're afraid of actually happened! we went from the main leftish force wanting legal gay marriage to them not even mentioning us despite crushing legal discrimination! what's happening in the US is not that, and I wish you understood that! this is not how it goes

if democrats as a whole actually "let all trans people get shot", as hasan, a cisgender parasite on our community said, you wouldn't be able to list dems that made random anti trans actions the same way you couldn't list anti-abortion republicans. the fact is that 95% of dems still back us
February 13, 2026 at 10:19 PM
i think the other prong of this is american trans people watching the Starmer Treason go down from far away and developing a complex about the centre-left abandoning them. but uh, a notoriously poorly disciplined party remaining near-unanimously united on trans rights is not quite how that goes down
February 13, 2026 at 10:10 PM
if the dems really dropped us people would not be polemic about newsom about trans rights, there would be too many politicians to agitate against! not just the extreme (if loud and annoying) fringe right of the party that has clearly lost out!

as someone from a country with no mainstream pro-lgbt politics at all, words cannot express how angry this makes me. this is a group of largely cis ideologues trying to conscript my people for their own political plays. we and our issues are nothing but an abstract talking point to centre and left
February 13, 2026 at 9:46 PM
americans are so spoiled its insane. dems are among the most progressive major parties in the world. they had the chance to throw us under the bus after 24 and they didn't, with the exceptions proving the rule! criticise them on something real instead of pretending to care about me
February 13, 2026 at 9:46 PM
these people are depressingly common, but the reason they're so loud is because they poast all day instead of being politically active lol

For 12 years, I have been laying track ballast. 12 hours a day, every day. Always hit 200% of quota.

Days go by without seeing my family.
I drink a liter of vodka a day.
The doctor says my back will give out one day.

But I don't mind—Communism doesn't build itself. We work hard, and we play hard.

this applies equally to the "if you do not sign a written pledge to vote for him you are a traitor" camp and the "i will proclaim unprompted that i will never vote for him" camp. dont give him free attention and let him drop out after south carolina
February 13, 2026 at 9:23 AM
i would abhor a President Newsom and his effects on the world which is why I think treating him as the presumptive nominee this early is a mistake. the only way that slimeball gets the nomination is via unearned fiat inevitability
February 13, 2026 at 9:23 AM
there is nothing inherent about any ideology, let alone any ideologue's brain that makes them support us. we are just minor political power brokers and so it behooves us to shop around for the best side to assert our interests. and if you run that analysis, the math doesn't lie, to say the least
February 12, 2026 at 9:46 PM
lots of shit has been righfully thrown at the centre for selling us out, but i would bet that the far-left would label us "workshy degenerates" the second they saw that as beneficial (because historically they did). no allies but ourselves, no ideology but self-advocacy
February 12, 2026 at 9:30 PM
i got blocked for explaining what party dues are?
February 11, 2026 at 12:09 AM
"i give you money, you provide me with something in return" is how exchange used to work! it meant that you had to pay for shit but also that you wouldn't get spammed with upsells and ads. even the non-P2W aspects of US campaign finance are so scammy it's unbelievable
February 10, 2026 at 11:12 PM
honestly this is genuinely quite shocking as a non-american lol. maybe it's because the internet age has conditioned everyone expect expensive-to-provide stuff for free, in exchange for being scalped for everything monetisable that doesn't have to be put on the price tag.
February 10, 2026 at 11:12 PM
strong "where did romans park their chariots when going to the colosseum" vibes with this one lmfao
February 10, 2026 at 9:52 PM
party dues are the most basic logistical building bloc of mass politics, and most non-american political parties have them. the alternative is what you have in america, where all fundraising comes from PACs and megadonors. would you rather keep an organisation loyal to its members, or its whales?

as a form of EU integration, scottish kids should be learning dual english/german as foreign languages
