Had the government said "as a mark of respect, we'd like you to cancel football matches, concerts etc AND protests today", then fair enough. But to single out the protest they've long wanted to stop anyway as the one thing we should not do looks like disgraceful exploitation of a horrific attack.

The intelligence community's Global Trends report got canceled as did the unit because they probably spoke the truth - accelerating climate change poses a risk to US national security and failure of the US to respond to climate change will likely undermine US position in the world.
Like all efforts at long-term prediction, these were pretty hit or miss, with no real immediate value for natsec. But they were one of the only formal govt efforts to look out at the long-term horizon.

I'd be curious to see the draft 2025 report that got the whole thing canned.
