Analysis of an rather undefined arctic front/outflow boundary over the Strait this AM #YVR. For a sharper feature we need deeper outflow which is not the case. Still, some local convergence over the Strait creating a few pop up shower/flurries, mainly over the water and touching EVI/Gulf Islands.

That's a nice example of diabatic cooling. As precip rates tick up, the snow level drops. It's the heat required to melt the snow falling in the column that drives the melt level to the surface, given the right environmental conditions

Was briefly snowing in Qualicum Beach earlier but nothing in Nanaimo. I was expecting precipitation rates to be a bit heavier in Nan, but looks like another bust.

Many uncertainties tdy 1) extent/velocity of wind this PM. Depends on track/depth of the sfc low. Remains broad in the mdls. 2) Snow ovnite 25-26 depends on diabatic cooling w/is a function of precip intensity, and elevation which is lcl. Cold fnt PM 26: depends on upr trof support. Trending stgr.

Approximate Arctic frontal boundary this morning from Haida Gwaii thru the Chilcotin and down into SEBC. It tends to oscillate N-S as waves ripple along the boundary, making weather highly variable in the frontal zone.
