In 1984, 35% of 13-year-olds reported reading for fun “almost every day,” according to @NAEP_NCES . By 2023, that figure was down to 14%, & 31% of respondents said they never read for fun at all.

NAEP has not improved or changed since 1969 (except for modest gains in early 2000s due to coordinated bi-partisan impvt efforts after NCLB).

High administrative salaries set the stage for lucrative lifetime pensions with retirement in early 50s…..this set-up deters disruption of status quo or going vs. what power wants. And power is > focused on keeping it than on better results for kids. ☹️
