Please refrain from using "folklore" in papers for results nobody can trace!
Either it's widely taught, or you have a reference for it. If it's neither, then folklore just means "I have a friend who told me" (let's hope the reader knows your friend!)

The main effect “is zero a natural number” discourse has had on me is that I now never use the symbol ℕ, and instead write ℤ_{>0} or ℤ_{\geq 0}. Who cares about this convention? Just say what you mean.
